The Erosion of Trust
The loss of trust in the age of AI is not just a social inconvenience but rather a philosophical crisis, a slow dissolution of one of humanity's most essential structures. Trust is the glue that holds relationships, institutions, and civilizations together. In the shadow of AI's rapid rise, this glue is increasingly dissolving under uncertainty, deception, and alienation.
It is a test of humanity, not technology. In a sea of uncertainty, we should ask ourselves whether we can remain true to our values.
Can we reclaim the ability to look each other in the eye, without the mediation of machines, and find trust in that fragile, fleeting moment?
Trust is not broken by machines but undermined by the hands that operate them. The question is not whether technology betrays us but whether we have betrayed the fragile threads of connection that make us human.
If we cannot rediscover trust beyond algorithms, then the fault lies not with our inventions but with ourselves.

3wTrustlessness is the basis of every sound relationship with unknown peers. It is only within a very small circle that trust isn't the poison of totalitarianism. Within a small tribe, trust can thrive. From the moment you switch to bigger groups, trust, of which religion is a particularly nasty version, is the poison that allows states to rise and subjugation to hold. Trust is the enemy of liberty. Liberty is the privilege to be able not to trust. For instance, if sound trustlessness rules, no idiot would succeed in making people think they should obey a government.

3wOur intention to become more connected, has left many of us stranded in our own islands. Technology becomes our unmarked adversary, as we are categorized and integrated into a system that pushes us further into our own echo chambers and shields us from our own delusions. How can we trust eachother when we cannot trust ourselves, first?
Thank you for this post which l perceive as a very poignant reminder of who we are and what we could lose as technology advances… We do need to balance out convenience with our human values and relationships… If l understand you, Because of the progress we ourselves invest in technology do we then become more insecure in our humanity… That is indeed the risk we are taking and something we do need to overcome… This should be constantly in our mind as we move forward in this field.
