Escape the Ordinary: The Benefits of Planning a Retreat Over a Vacation
As I stated in my vision for 2023, digital nomads must emphasize the importance of wellness in their lifestyles. Taking care of your mental and physical health is crucial to maintain productivity and cope with the demanding lifestyle of digital nomadism.
One effective way to achieve this is by participating in a retreat.
A retreat is a purposeful getaway, designed to provide a break from a stressful or challenging situation in order to heal and recharge.
Usually, there are two common responses to this proposal.
1. "Aren't digital nomads essentially on permanent holiday?"
If you think that, then you may not have experienced the nomadic lifestyle. While we nomads are fortunate to have the opportunity to explore incredible places, we are still working and need a break from our routine as well.
2. "I go on vacations, isn't that enough?"
Retreats and vacations are not interchangeable. Vacations often involve planning, scheduling and making reservations, and may also involve working or dealing with crowds of tourists, which can create its own form of stress.
Retreats can be more effective than vacations due to the seclusion, proximity to nature, guidance of experts, and activities that help you discover yourself and your surroundings. Additionally, you don't have to plan anything and may even spend less money as your activities are limited to specific options.
Retreats are like pressing pause on your routine, providing a chance to take a breath of fresh air away from any situation and recharge with renewed energy.
