Essential Social Media Video Specs for 2024

As we progress through 2024, video content remains crucial for engagement and conversions on social media. To streamline your content creation process, I’ve put together a comprehensive guide to the latest video specs for major platforms. This guide can be great for marketers, social media managers, content creators, and business owners looking to optimize their videos.

Sharing Tips and Key Points:

  • Facebook:

- Feed Video: 1280x720 pixels, up to 240 minutes. Use .MOV and .MP4 formats for best quality.

- 360 Video: 5120x2560 pixels, up to 30 minutes. Ensure your camera includes 360 metadata.

- Stories: 1080x1080 pixels, 5-20 seconds. Highest resolution recommended.

- Reels: 540x960 pixels minimum, 4-60 seconds. Upload your highest resolution video.


  • Instagram:

- In-feed Video: 1920x1080 (Landscape), 1080x1080 (Square), up to 60 seconds. Use .MP4 or .MOV.

- Stories: 1080x1080 pixels, up to 15 seconds (organic) or 2 minutes (ads). Keep top/bottom 250 pixels empty.

- Reels: 9:16 aspect ratio, 3-900 seconds. Use catchy music and calls to action.


  • Twitter:

- Landscape Videos: 1280x720 pixels, up to 140 seconds. Use .MP4 for web and .MOV for mobile.

- Portrait and Square Videos: 720x1280 (Portrait), 720x720 (Square), up to 140 seconds. Focus on brief, engaging content.


  • Snapchat:

- Single Video Ads: 1080x1920 pixels, 3-10 seconds. Leave top/bottom 15% empty.

- Long-Form Video Ads: 1080x1920 pixels, 3-180 seconds. Vertical videos preferred.


  • YouTube:

- Video Player: Up to 2160p, 12 hours max. Use highest possible resolution.

- Video Ads: Skippable (up to 6 minutes), Unskippable (15-30 seconds), Bumper (6 seconds). Make ads compelling with clear CTAs.


  • LinkedIn:

- Shared Videos: 4096x2304 max, up to 10 minutes. Use .MP4 or .MOV.

- Video Ads: Up to 1080p, 30 minutes max. Keep ads to 15 seconds for best engagement.


  • Pinterest:

- Video Ads: Square (600x600) and Vertical (600x900) formats, up to 30 minutes. Create engaging, concise content.

Remember, shorter videos often perform better as people prefer quick, engaging content.
