Events Highlights

⭐️ Regulatory Dialogues at Devcon SEA

Devcon in Bangkok was an incredible opportunity for us to engage with the global crypto community. Over several days, we hosted discussions, workshops, and panels addressing critical topics in crypto regulation. We met many of you at our booth, including a visit from Vitalik Buterin!

During the Real World Ethereum Track at Devcon, we facilitated a hands-on workshop titled “Bridging the Gap”, aimed at empowering the industry with tools to communicate effectively with regulators. We were joined by Ushida Ryosuke from the Financial Services Agency of Japan for the panel and then broke into hands-on workshops and discussions. You can already watch the recording online!

A key moment was our “[Legal] Taxonomy for DeFi” workshop at the DeFi Community Hub at Devcon, which highlighted the importance of precise language when engaging with regulatory bodies. The goal of our workshop was to identify commonly misunderstood terms and propose more precise, regulator-friendly alternatives. Here's a sneak peak of what we discussed, leave us your comments here and reach out to get involved - it will be something we’ll focus our attention on in the next months.

Another highlight of the week was our participation in the Funding the Commons event, where Marina Markezic and Florian Glatz shared insights on innovative methods to fund crypto policy initiatives.

🇹🇭 Discussing Global Challenges at The Reg3 Conference in Bangkok

The Bangkok edition of The Reg3 Conference focused on a truly international dialogue on crypto regulation, featuring discussions on the state of global regulatory frameworks. A comparative session highlighted both the progress and challenges in achieving unified global standards. The conversation touched on key themes such as the implications of U.S. regulations and the innovative paths emerging economies are carving for themselves.

🇧🇬 The Reg3 Conference in Sofia: Regional Perspectives on Regulation

In Sofia, The Reg3 Conference offered a platform for in-depth discussions of regulatory challenges and solutions tailored to regional and international contexts. The conference kicked off with a focus on MiCA and its impact on the industry, addressing the practical implications of MiCA and the pressing concerns businesses face as the regulation takes effect. DeFi was another key area of discussion, with sessions comparing European and U.S. approaches to non-custodial wallets, as well as an analysis of decentralization risks. Speakers highlighted Switzerland's regulatory model and its potential as a benchmark for other jurisdictions, underscored the importance of robust risk management frameworks, and discussed the challenges we face with data protection and blockchain transparency.

🎟️ Our Marina Markezic joined the latest Lex DAO Study Group to discuss Reverse Solicitation with a great lineup of experts. Don’t forget to follow us to be always updated on the next events and Study Groups!

🎥 Recordings from the Avalanche Summit LATAM are out! Our Marina Markezic talked MiCA and blockchain regulation with Urszula McCormack , Lilya Tessler , Caroline Malcolm and Lee Schneider . Watch the recording here.

EUCI in the Media

📌 Politico’s newsletter - EUCI, alongside the Electronic Money Association (EMA) and INATBA - International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications , has been highlighted in Politico’s Fintech section for raising concerns about the delays in critical crypto regulations. In our joint letter addressed to DG FISMA and ESMA, we called for immediate action over the delays in adopting technical standards needed for providers to obtain authorisation under the new EU crypto regulations coming into effect at the end of 2024.

📌 DL News, “Why industry warns MiCA delays put $1tn EU crypto market at risk”

In a conversation with Joanna Wright, our senior policy expert Vyara Savova, LL.M., Ph.D.—to—be highlighted our call to extend MiCA’s grace period until June 2025, ensuring CASPs have the time they need to go through the application process without disrupting services across borders.
