A coal-free Britain, transmission issues, and balancing costs – Q3 Electric Insights Report

This edition looks at coal usage across Britain, what’s next after coal-fired power generation is eliminated and the electricity transmission grid, among other topical stories within the British electricity market.

New industry Intelligence
At the end of November National Energy System Operator (NESO) published its draft Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) tariffs for 2025/26. The tariffs reported a 6% increase against July forecasts, and a significant rise against current tariffs.
On 13 December, the government published its Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, outlining how it aims to meet its target of “clean power” over the next six years.
The government has also proposed a raft of changes for demand-side response participation in the Capacity Market. The ambition is to support the 30-40GW of short duration flexible capacity the NESO estimates the country will need by 2030.

Supporting Love Ipswich and a range of local charities with our work in the community
We’re proud to support the Love Ipswich Christmas Hamper appeal again this year, which delivers Christmas meals to vulnerable families in the local areas. Our colleagues packed, wrapped and transported 75 hampers. Love Ipswich aims to distribute over 300 hampers across Ipswich and Suffolk this year, so we’re proud to play a part in this fantastic appeal.
We also recently hosted our final quiz of the year, which saw 10 teams battle it out across various categories! As well as a fun evening of testing brain power, we raised over £200 for our chosen charities, For Children & Young People (4YP) , St Elizabeth Hospice and East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) .
