Even leaders need a tribe

Even leaders need a tribe

Running a business can be a lonely place.

Especially for those at the top.

Ever since I read Lost Connections I've been driven to further build our work around human connection.

"We have begun to think: I will look after myself, and everybody else should look after themselves, as individuals. Nobody can help you but you. Nobody can help me but me. These ideas now run so deep in our culture that we even offer them as feel-good bromides to people who feel down—as if it will lift them up. But this is a denial of human history, and a denial of human nature. It leads us to misunderstand our most basic instincts. And this approach to life makes us feel terrible.” – Johann Hari

Imagine a highway to deep connection

People think we're a business school, which in some ways is true.

But I actually believe we're a happiness school for entrepreneurs.

Or more actually a friendship factory.

True happiness comes from social connection. And when we feel connected, we feel happier.

"I came for the content and stayed for the friends" is something we hear again and again across all our programs.

And it's no coincidence.

Carlos and I have been friends for more than 40 years. We never felt at home in business circles, or felt true authentic connection - so we created a place of our own.

A place we and others now call home.

We were both born into big families with strong community ties, whether Irish or Filipino.

We've been gifted the joy of connection. And I see our role as sharing this gift with the world.

There is no greater evidence of this than at our invite-only mountainside retreat Alptitude which is back in June 2024. It's where leaders level up their (self) knowledge, mindset and network.

As tends to be the way with these intimate gatherings, we're just announcing it but it's almost full 😕

It's because it's one of those trips of a lifetime that is on many people's bucketlist.

That said, there are 5 places left.

Maybe 2024 could be your time?

What people said after this year's event:

"Alptitude will give you the answers you need, even when you're not sure what question you're asking. It's truly life changing." Jessica Scott

"A likeminded community forging deep connections and joy in the beauty of mountains. "You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave"..." Gary Simpson

"The most important part of your business is you. Alptitude is a space for being the pure and latest version of "you". In doing so, you allow yourself to see the best and worst parts of yourself and discover what you want to leave on the mountain, and what you want to hold onto and take back." Mark Vletter

"It was one of the most impactful weeks I had in the last years. Being in awe of the nature around us, in connection with a wonderful tribe of people and true to oneself started a big journey." Matthias Hoffman

"The best exploration into nature, the human soul and business you can get all in one. Go if you want rest and to play. Go if you want adventure and want safety. Go if you want connection and to disconnect. Go if you are thriving and sinking. It's all there for you, with you." Sophie Bryan
