Hard work, as society defines it, can feel like the myth of Sisyphus — endlessly pushing a boulder uphill, only for it to roll back down. You pour in hours, sweat, and energy, yet end up feeling stuck, frustrated, or burned out. Hard work isn’t always the golden ticket to success. Even when it pays off, the price can be steep. And sometimes, it doesn’t move you forward at all.

Why does this happen? There are several reasons why working harder doesn’t necessarily work better:
