Every Time You Say "Yes", You Say "No" to Two Other Things

Every Time You Say "Yes", You Say "No" to Two Other Things

I was sitting in the lobby of the church exhausted.

Instead of going into the sanctuary to hear the preacher I just sat there and rested.

It was 2011 and Sarah and I had gotten more involved at our small church.

We didn’t have kids and always said yes whenever someone asked us to help with something.

Before I knew it, I went from being a pew warmer to serving on three committees, teaching Sunday School, ushering, Room in the Inn (homeless shelter), and driving the church bus to pick up some of our elderly congregation.

By the way, the homeless and elderly can get surprisingly grumpy when the pickup bus is late,

All great things to be involved in, however, anytime I would attempt to tell someone no, I would feel guilty.

They didn’t help any by telling me “the Lord put this on my heart” and following up my hesitation by telling me to pray about it.  Funny, when I said yes, they never told me to pray about it

I was about to burn out on church, not Jesus.

Warren Buffet, one of the most successful investors and entrepreneurs of all time, was quoted saying, "The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything."

This one is hard. We love saying yes to everything, especially when running a business.  We think every opportunity could be the next big thing.

But when you say yes to one thing, you say no to at least two other things.

This is especially true when you are self-employed or a busy professional.

Take just a few minutes and listen/watch for several things that you need to say no to, so you can Do More By Doing Less...see what I did there?
