Everyone has an idea for marketing

Everyone has an idea for marketing

Has this happened to you?

Getting suggestions from random people about 'how to market'?

Basically how to do your job.

If this hasn’t happened to you yet, you’re from another planet.

For the rest of us, it’s a weight we will have to bear for the rest of our lives.

Picture this scenario

The marketing team sitting around a table discussing how to get their target accounts to engage

And then there is this guy from tech who goes

“Hey, why don't you just send out more emails?

And then this person from HR goes

“Oh, oh, and don't forget the dancing monkeys!

Sure, let’s forget about targeting your audience or crafting a compelling message.

Let's just throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks.

I sometimes feel I’m very close to losing my sanity when this happens.

But then I remind myself-

"I don’t have to actually implement all of that."

So, I did something last week

  • Set up a booth at an event & said “We don’t pitch here”
  • Instead of company messages, added a cartoon character
  • Instead of a flyer, printed a B2B marketing comic book to give away

And, hey, looks like it worked.

We got the attention we wanted.

The comic turned a few heads.

Got a few high-value prospect conversations.

Luckily, I did not take a lot of suggestions that came by.

So, to all the B2B marketers out there, I salute you.

I know that you’re going through the same thing.

But remember, sometimes the best decision is the suggestion you don't take.

By the way, if you’d like a digital copy of the comic book, all you need to do is reply to this post.
