Everything Parents Need To Know About The Covid-19 Vaccine Trial Results For Kids

On Tuesday, October 28th, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Advisory Panel recommended approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. Now parents everywhere are asking what that means and how soon their kids may be able to get the shot.

When news of the recommendation first hit, some parents may have initially misunderstood it as an outright approval. But that isn’t yet the case. Instead, this is the first step to approval, with the FDA’s advisory committee on vaccines and biologics recommending an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the vaccine to be made available to kids between the ages of 5 and 11.

The vaccine is already available to children 12 and older.

The most recent vote didn’t come until after the committee had reviewed all available data from Pfizer’s trial testing the vaccine in this younger cohort.
