Human resources used to be the department known for hiring and firing.

But modern HR departments do so much more.

Human resources is evolving and dramatically impacts the employee experience and the future of work. It’s becoming one of the most dynamic places to work.

Instead of just hiring and firing employees, HR now enables, empowers, engages, and creates experiences. It’s about more than just payroll and benefits--it’s the entire employee experience. HR leaders are no longer the “police” of the company to ensure everyone is in line. Instead, they are the coaches, mentors, and thought-leaders that push the company towards the future of work.

They rely heavily on technology and analytics to challenge the status quo and shape and lead strategy. The old HR department didn’t have a seat at the table, but HR departments that have evolved are key players in their company. HR is no longer a cost center; it’s a profit-enabling part of the company.

Human resources has a powerful impact on every employee in an organization, both in their daily experience and the large-scale strategy. If you want to shape your company’s future and create amazing employee experiences, HR is the place to be.

it would be great to see more Companies include these concepts in their Company information and job descriptions. Having been keeping an eye on the HR marketplace , I am finding there is a mismatch between what is on social media and the reality of what Companies are recruiting for/offering their workforce in terms of ways of working. Often (not always) there is a long list of traditional demands with very little reference to working with the business to achieve the desired results. I have been extremely lucky with my last employer who invested heavily in upskilling its organization, it would be great to see more organisations doing this and applying progressive concepts. It might help with their recruitment and retention strategies too!

HR has to keep up with the times or risk losing top performers to their competitors. Just think about how the big tech companies used to promote ping pong tables and pizza parties to lure talent. Now, employees could care less about these things and prefer flexible schedules and work from home opportunities.

In my experience HR is sneaky and untrustworthy. They say 1 thing to the employees, but then stab them in the back for the employers. They are out of touch with the workers.

HR continues to evolve. We are still moving full steam ahead and we have to be thinking about how to do that. Today’s workforce are going through a variety of personal and professional changes. We need to be flexible, creative, proactive instead of reactive and we have to build meaningful relationships. We should always be thinking about the future and how we can change the perception that HR is an administrative role. It's actually an innovative, ground-breaking role. In my opinion, the best role in the company.
