Evolving Labels & Empowering Members
In the world of recycling, we know that we're in an unprecedented time of change. Before we release our semi-annual Guidelines for Use, we’re taking a look at How2Recycle’s role in a dynamic recycling environment.
In this newsletter, we're sharing more on our How2Recycle Summit—where we can’t wait to see so many of our members. We’re also covering a new feature, “Request a Second Look,” for double checking label designations. And you can check out our updated Canadian Check Locally label.
Thanks for advancing recycling with us—and don’t forget to look out for the Guidelines for Use later this month!

Empowering Adaptation: How2Recycle's Role in a Dynamic Recycling Environment
No company can control the changes to recycling legislation or recyclability. But what we can’t change, we can adapt to.
With How2Recycle membership, we’re working to empower companies to adapt to the constant changes in the legislation and recyclability landscapes.
As we prepare to release our semi-annual Guidelines for Use later this month and refresh the design of the How2Recycle label, we’re taking a look back at our history of evolving with our members to meet the changing legislative and recyclability landscapes.
Join Us at the How2Recycle Summit
Between interactive sessions at the How2Recycle Summit Speakeasy, sessions on data-driven labeling, and everything in between, we can’t wait to see our members in Chicago from October 2 - 3.
Attendees can look forward to learning more about the data-driven future of on-pack labeling as we dive deeper into sessions on data harmonization and the importance of data quality for recycling.
How2Recycle members can also participate in workshops, an immersive mock marketplace, recyclability trivia, tours highlighting local sustainability initiatives, and of course mingling with other attendees.
How to Get a Second Look at Your Label Assignment
The How2Recycle team is excited to share a new update to our process: requesting a Second Look. Members at the “Proof Needed” or “Approved” stages of their label designation process can now request that we double check your label assignment.
If you’re interested in requesting a Second Look, the process begins when you hit “request.” You’ll then be prompted to answer questions about your request—the answers will be recorded and your label request will re-enter our queue for review.
If we find that the label needs to be changed, we’ll update it and send the request through the remaining process as normal. If no updates are needed, we’ll send the request back to the status you were at when the Second Look request was submitted.
Updated Canada Check Locally Label
The How2Recycle team is pleased to announce that we’ve updated the Check Locally label for products sold in Canada. The updated dual language design complies with the strictest interpretation of Québec’s Charter of the French Language, providing equal language prominence.
Moving forward, all label requests for products sold in Canada with a Check Locally component will be assigned the updated label. To comply with the law and avoid any potential penalties, members should update their labels on-pack as soon as possible.
