Big World
From Exchange Invest 2041 Tuesday May 4:
News that Bill and Melinda Gates have filed for divorce puts in perspective the once all conquering power of Microsoft (a product set I have not consciously used for well over a decade, apparently it still exists). This latest unfortunate marital ‘conscious uncoupling’ represents the equivalent of a larger ‘demerger of equals’ with $130 billion on Bill’s balance sheet alone plus the trust assets of circa $50 billion (albeit not all Gates donations) and Melinda’s female-focused funds etc.
In other words, there is a divorce happening where the assets amount to more than the biggest deal ever done in the parish. Food for thought?*
*NB at this weekend’s values you could comfortably shell out for both of this year’s Young’s Pyramid T1 laggards: LSEG and Coinbase with significant change left over.

Innovating Financial Law Through Blockchain
Max Ganado is a semi mythical figure in Maltese law: his widespread description as a ‘visionary’ hardly does him justice! Beginning as a maritime lawyer, Max hugely developed the Financial Services practices at GanadoAdvocates, the blue riband law firm in the island state. Max has been heavily involved in the drafting of new legislation required for the development of Malta as a financial centre, including the revision of the law relating to trusts and the law on legal persons and foundations, as well as on netting, securitisation, DLT and aviation. He was the Managing Partner of Ganado Advocates for 6 years prior to retiring in December 2020 and becoming a Consultant to the firm.
As Chamber FinTech Legal noted in 2020, “He has a curious and inquisitive mind and is fascinated about new legal challenges. He’s quick on understanding the key issues and can go into action quickly as a result,” An early adopter of the technology, Max remains a key thinker around the law for Distributed Ledger Technology.
