4. Insights From Ophthalmic Leaders with Dr. Richard Packard
Dr. Packard served on the ESCRS board from 1999 to 2007 and has chaired the ESCRS Video Competition Judging Panel since 2000. He is an active member of the society’s Education Committee and leads the Cataract Surgery Didactic Course.

Dr. Dick serves as the Treasurer of the German Society of Cataract, Refractive and Interventional Surgery (DGII), following his four-year term as the society's President from 2016 to 2020. He is a sought-after speaker at international conferences such as the AAO, DOG, DOC, DGII, ESCRS, APAO, and ASCRS. Additionally, he has trained fellows from 44 different countries in advanced cataract, refractive, glaucoma, and vitreoretinal surgery at the University Eye Hospital Bochum.

Dr. Ribeiro is affiliated with the Visual Sciences Research Centre and the Plasma Physics, Lasers, and Nuclear Fusion Department at the University of Lisbon. She is the Principal Investigator of the Learning Health Vision Group at Hospital da Luz Lisbon. Her research focuses on IOL power calculation, presbyopia correction, and innovations in cataract surgery. Dr. Ribeiro is currently serving as the President of the ESCRS.
