EXECUTION: FROM CONCEPTUALIZATION TO ACTUALIZATION

I always knew that I wanted to be in the people’s development business from my days in the University. I had this idea of helping people discover their purpose, identify their true-self-worth and exploit the huge deposits of potential that resides within them. I knew I wanted to write self-help books and venture into public speaking. But all these were ideas; concepts that had little impact in my own life. They just remained concepts until two years ago when I decided that it was time to execute my ideas and actualize them. Then, and only then did I get results and value from my ideas.

Over the last two years I have been privileged to interact with, coach, train and speak to different people in different cadres of life; ranging from high-flying corporate executives to high school students and teenagers from all over the world. One thing that has consistently stood out is that all of them have great ideas. But very few of them are actualizing their ideas by executing them.

Execution is the fulcrum upon which the lever of actualization turns. Without proper execution ideas will just remain to be ideas. To gain any meaningful results out of them you need to master the art and science of execution.

Mostly, our ability to execute is hindered by two things only; fear and procrastination. We fear that our ideas are not worth of execution or that they will not bear many results. We also fear what people will make of us, we fear that the ideas may never work or worse of all, that they will work and spiral out of our control. Procrastination is the other factor makes us put execution on perpetual hold. We feel like it is not yet time or that we have all the time on earth and therefore can always execute at a future date.

Overcome the fear, handle procrastination and execute now. That is the only way to move your thoughts and ideas from conceptualization to actualization.
