If execution is key to success why don't organizations develop a disciplined approach to it?
1) this happens when organizations have ambiguity on their goals or unable to communicate to their stake holders properly.
2) Culture in any organization plays a crucial role, processes must bring in accountability, discipline else even best strategies would fail.
3) Lack of understanding the complexity and effort required to implement strategy. A casual approach like some seniors say ' we have a good strategy' , at times they underestimate the complexity.
4) Resource constraints, execution of strategy requires sufficient time, budget and good man power, if organization compromise on these whatsoever the reason it may be then 'strategy execution suffers'.
5) Change management failures, organizations must have policies to be able to adapt to new circumstances, changing regulatory requirements / technology.
6) Lack of mastery (good leader not available), if leaders do not model disciplined behavior or fail to hold others accountable then execution of strategy would suffer.
7) Proper metrics not available & feedback mechanisms not available, in absence of these it is difficult to measure progress and make adjustments that are needed.
8) Failure to visualize long term goals, some organizations focus only on short term goals, quarterly financial results, dossier filings , may ignore unintentionally the overall objective or strategy of the organization.
Overall a disciplined approach is required for execution of the strategy.
