Expect the Unexpected
New seedlings for Autumn

Expect the Unexpected

This morning a lovely new friendly acquaintance from church, called round with a bag of my favourite (with Cherries) fruit, after a short conversation after church yesterday. Feijoas. YUM.

But, here I was working at the computer, sitll in my night clothes and without an essential, visible item. Grrr.

Trouble is, I live alone so don't think about the nicetiies of interaction with others until I've had my morning coffee. I tell myself I will change and get dressed first :-), but chances are, I won't. Still, I have a lovely, large bag of Feijoas to snalck on, or even make into jam, almost the best jam you can have. Sweet, without being over sweet and sickly. Similar to the wild Greengage jam I made while living in the South Island, which sadly does not grow here in the far north. Still, the contact got me out of play mode and into what I really need to do now that the sun is shining after all the rain we had over the weekend. So, get dressed and out in the garden to get my veggie beds cleared of summer and readyy for my Autumn/Winter veg.

Wednesday already, but at least the washing is out on the line, my beds are cleared of last season's leftovers and are replenished with new soil and compost. The plants are waiting to be planted, but with the unfortunate behaviour of the stray kittens, they are still in their pots waiting for me to buy some repellent to hopefully keep them out of the beds while the plants establish themselves. Nearly a week has past already!! I had a call last Wednesday, could I go up and look after my daughter's dogs while they went away for a few days. Of course, said I as I love looking after the girls, and staying in their home. In the mornings if there's no rain or heavy wind, you can hear the waves pounding on the beach over the other side of the sand dunes. Sitting on the back patio, coffee in hand, sun shining, bliss.

Not so much after, I managed to trip over a cushion in the dark, landing on my right foot and knee. Almost a week later and the bruising on the foot is out and my knee is still tender. The main hurt though is on the outer side of my foot, so no walking for a few days. This episode won't be finished before tomorrow either as I have my replacement ipad, but the cable has a different computer connection and doesn't have a usb connection so I will have to go and buy one from the computer shop. Foot too painful at the moment, so I will go tomorrow and take the car. Then I will be able to include the photos I took with the ipad on this post. I was able to plant my new seedlings and, due to a lovely bout of rain yesterday, they are looking really happy. There are even some baby Aubergines growin on the plant, which I will monitor as I'm not sure of the time frame for harvesting that plant. Autumn is well underway now, but thankfully we get very little frost up here in the north, so hopefully I won't lose much yet awhile. But, in the meantime the sun is shining and I have everything I need for today without having to go out anywhere.
