Beyond the talk.
So if you’re a purpose led Leader, and have a genuine interest in continuous learning that makes a positive impact, this newsletter is made for you.

UPDATES
It’s been a couple of action packed months with me updating qualifications in training and assessment, and an ongoing project with a registered training organization in the Instructional Design and L & D consultancy space.
On top of this I’m working on a collaboration designed to bridge generational gaps in the era of remote work.
This is like a real world experimentation between two very different generations.
I’ll let you know when we’re ready to launch this project.
Finally, I’ve put my hand up to be one of Transform’s Global Lead Ambassadors.
Transform is a Global community of People/HR Leaders who are committed to helping shape the future of work.
It’s early in the planning stages but will keep you across developments in Tasmania as I and the board of advisors (tbc) create the Hobart chapter.
PS I am also about to start experimenting with short form videos (60 second maximum) so keep an eye out and let me know what you think 📣
QUICK FIRE ADVICE FROM THE L & D FRONTLINE
Often there’s a lot of waste in how L & D projects are delivered.
OLD THINKING ❌
Move quickly to the next project in the pipeline.
NEW WAY FORWARD ✔️
Value self-reflection amongst teams to identify challenges and untapped opportunity.
Before commencing your next L & D project gather the team and make time to ask these questions I’ve prepared earlier.
1. What’s serving us well in how we deliver project outcomes and impacts?
2. What is no longer relevant, acts as a roadblock and needs to be removed?
3. What’s still valuable but needs to look different as it causes frustration and inefficiency?
4. And what’s different/new that needs to be introduced to the project mix because there’s gap in what + how we deliver?
Let’s start asking these questions so we can address the root causes straight up and create a different learning experience with our people without inefficiency.
Collectively.
WHAT " I DON'T WANT TO ROCK THE BOAT" TELLS US ABOUT A WORKPLACE
During the research phase I heard it lots and it revealed a concerning trend amongst the teams participating in the project.
In this post I unpack the reasons why it’s absolutely essential that next time you hear this from a colleague or team member get “respectfully curious”.
And dig deeper.
MOVING FROM STALE MEETINGS TO CONNECTED IDEA SESSIONS
Change the same old generic meeting into idea sessions that actually create genuine opportunities to learn and grow.
And approach it with a continuous learning mindset that rewards collective effort.
While building the team’s capability to think different and re-wiring the relationship cross roles.
This blog is full of proven, practical steps to cut the waste and generate the outcomes that matter.

SO MANY COMPETING PRIORITIES
My latest two minute video is short and to the point unpacking two key areas:
⚡the top questions to ask when you’ve identified problems, threats and challenges in the organization but you don’t know where to start
⚡where the focus needs to be to find solutions while staying on track to deliver high value work as a team
Remember this
You can’t hit every skill gap, threat or risk at once, but asking the right questions like these early
✳️allows you to minimize overwhelm and start doing positively different
✳️reduces risk and waste in areas not going to deliver the outcomes and impacts that matter

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
In 2008 I founded Kiikstart so purpose led brands had the capability and conditions to make continuous learning and experimentation part of everyone’s role.
And have a space to generously share insights and lessons learnt within teams and cross teams.
Why?
I saw expertise and insights leave the building when people move on to their next role. Or retired.
There was a real gap in how teams connected continuous learning to project delivery and the ongoing management of knowledge and expertise. Within teams and across teams.
I look forward to having you here each month and hearing what you want in terms of knowledge and advice.
This newsletter is not a solo gig so please speak up, because how we experience work through L & D really is a community effort.
Regards,
Ali Uren
