Experts Share Insights on Combating OT Ransomware Threats at Upcoming Cybersecurity Event - Nov 15
I’d like to share my enthusiasm leading up to the last (CS)²AI Symposium of 2023. In an effort to tackle the growing threat of ransomware attacks disrupting enterprises using Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Control System (ICS), the CS2AI Global - Control System Cyber Security Association International , is bringing together industry-leading experts and cybersecurity professionals at the (CS)²AI Online™ Symposium: Ransomware - Targeting the OT Enterprise, scheduled to take place online starting at 1:00 pm Eastern time on Wednesday, November 15. This one-of-a-kind event will bring you unique features including:
All aimed at helping professionals better understand ransomware and defend their critical infrastructure from OT ransomware attacks.
Ransomware has emerged as a formidable threat, causing havoc across various industries. In the manufacturing sector, these malicious attacks disrupt operations, causing significant downtime and potential revenue losses. The healthcare industry, too, has been a prime target, with ransomware attacks potentially impacting patient care. Understanding the profound impact of ransomware is key to prioritizing robust defenses and mitigating potential threats in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape.
You'll hear from industry leaders who are on the front lines of the cyber battlefield, researching and combating ransomware directly. They'll share their experiences, strategies, and teach us how to turn these challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation.
Event Highlights and Take Away Outcomes include:
Interview with an OT Ransomware ThreatACTOR: Attendees will gain unique insights into the mindset and tactics of OT ransomware threat actors through an anonymous interview with an individual who claims to have intimate insight into such attacks. This rare perspective will shed light on the motivations and methods employed by these malicious actors.
Data on OT Ransomware Incidents: An in-depth analysis of recent data on OT ransomware incidents will be presented, revealing alarming trends in the cyber-physical world. With annual increases in attacks, the presentation and panel discussion will highlight the urgent need for organizations to bolster their defenses against this evolving threat and recommended practices to do so.

The Ransomware Ecosystem: An exploration of the ransomware ecosystem will unveil the intricate web of threat actors, their motivations, tools, and illicit services that facilitate these attacks. Understanding this ecosystem is vital for developing effective defense strategies.
Responding to Ransomware in the Cyber-Physical World: Cybersecurity experts share key strategies, learned from handling real-world incidents, for responding to ransomware attacks in the cyber-physical world. By emphasizing prevention, robust incident response, collaboration, and resilience, organizations can mitigate risks and minimize the impact of ransomware incidents.
Bonus Session Ransomware Tabletop Exercise: In a practical session, attendees learn how to conduct a tabletop exercise simulating a ransomware attack on an OT environment. This experience will allow organizations to test their own incident response plans and identify areas for improvement in a safe and controlled environment.
So, mark your calendars 🗓️, grab your coffee ☕, and get ready to dive deep into the world of ransomware as it applies to OT and ICS networks. Let's come together as a community to learn, share, and form our defense plans.

1moDear experts, Kindly read my brave article on linked In "ICS-OT DIRECTED RANSOMWARE IS NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN. I mean NOT Happen if conducted against a safety critical Industrial system by an expert attacker. Actually, it never happened until now :)

1yThis is why security convergence at the strategic enterprise level, which many of us have campaigned for, over two decades, is a 'must' according to recent Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency documents ie one unified team. But ASIS International latest survey found 34% unified in one Cybersecurity, and physical security team. It also revealed another 6% would converge by 2023. So maybe it's 40% now. Please would those 'who can' share the benefits of this best practice with the rest of the world do so, and give the critics something to think about. Otherwise unless organisations use real time Cyber physical security monitoring of OT and IoT as well - we will see more successful blended attacks on smart buildings and increasing levels of fraud, like the criminals tried in Die Hard 4. Convergence was a success then thanks to Bruce Willis and his hacker friend!
