Exploring the Wonders of Bolivia
A Journey from Copacabana to Estacion Avaroa
Copacabana: A Charming Lakeside Town My journey to Bolivia began in the picturesque town of Copacabana, nestled on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The town’s vibrant markets, colonial architecture, and stunning views of the lake set the perfect tone for my Bolivian adventure. Cycling through the border and after watching the at a break was cool. The amazing view of the lake was second to none.
Tiquina and Huarina: Gateway to Cultural Riches As I ventured further into Bolivia, I made a stop at Tiquina and Huarina. These two small towns serve as gateways to the country’s rich cultural heritage. The locals' colourful markets and warm hospitality left a lasting impression on me, offering a glimpse into the authentic Bolivian way of life. I got a little ferry-looking boat to the other side of the road which was great. This was a major shortcut which locals were using and I thought I should also do the same and did it.
La Paz: A City of Contrasts Arriving in La Paz, I was immediately struck by the city’s unique blend of modernity and tradition. Lap is the highest capital city in the world and you can feel it. The bustling markets, ancient streets, and the breathtaking backdrop of the Andes Mountains created an unforgettable tapestry of sights and sounds. Exploring the Witches’ Market and taking a cable car ride over the city gave me a deeper understanding of La Paz’s rich cultural tapestry. The city was huge and decided to get some nuts and dry fruits which were on sale at the local shops. They were impressive, tasty and quite economical you should try them if you have a chance to visit the city its on Av. Illampu in La Paz
Oruro: Unveiling Bolivia’s Folklore My next destination was Oruro, a city steeped in folklore and tradition. The vibrant Carnaval de Oruro, recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, offered a mesmerizing display of colourful costumes, music, and dance that celebrated Bolivia’s cultural diversity.

Uyuni: Surreal Landscapes and Salt Flats The highlight of my journey was undoubtedly Uyuni, home to the world’s largest salt flat. The otherworldly landscapes, vast expanse of salt flats, and stunning sunsets created an ethereal experience that felt like stepping into a dream. Exploring the Salar de Uyuni and encountering its unique flora and fauna was a truly surreal adventure. Cycling was quite challenging I had to admit and I realised the altitude after my roommate in Uyuni told me when he was sick due to altitude until that moment I felt a bit tired more than normal and did not realise the altitude was over 4000m. So be careful if you want to visit this area it may not be the best place for cycling.
Estacion Avaroa: Gateway to the Andean Altiplano My journey culminated in Estacion Avaroa, where I embarked on an exploration of the Andean Altiplano. The rugged terrain, high-altitude lakes, and diverse wildlife offered a glimpse into Bolivia’s untamed natural beauty. Visiting Eduardo Avaroa National Park allowed me to witness geysers, hot springs, and the iconic Laguna Colorada, painting a vivid picture of Bolivia’s awe-inspiring landscapes.
As I reflect on my journey through Bolivia, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to immerse myself in its rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality. Each destination left an indelible mark on my heart, weaving together a tapestry of experiences that will forever hold a special place in my travel memories.
