Export Market Development Grant: applications open soon

The Australian Government’s next round of the Export Market Development Grant opens on Tuesday 12 November 2024 at 10am AEDT. Funding is limited, so as accountants and business advisors, it’s crucial that you communicate to your eligible clients, to encourage them to prepare and submit applications promptly, as grants will close once the budgeted allocation is met.

Eligibility Criteria

Open to SMEs with a turnover of less than $20M in 2023/24 Financial Year.

Businesses must be involved in exporting goods, services, events, Intellectual Property, software, or ‘know-how’ from Australia, or offering services to overseas residents.

Grant Support Tiers

Tier 1: For new exporters with turnover over $100,000. Requires an Austrade approved export-readiness training, which is reimbursable.

Tier 2: For businesses expanding export activities in existing markets with turnover over $500,000.

Tier 3: For businesses entering new ‘key markets’, described by Austrade, with turnover over $1M, focusing on strategic export shifts.

Each business can apply under one tier per round and must have held the same ABN for at least two years.

The grants cover a two-year period (2025/26 and 2026/27). Funding per year is as follows:

Tier 1: $20,000-$30,000

Small Business Equity Financing for Accountants, Business Advisors and Virtual CFOs

The Small Business Equity Financing for Accountants, Business Advisors and Virtual CFOs was developed by Peter Towers, Managing Director of ESS BIZTOOLS, in collaboration with CPD for Accountants.

SMEs are increasingly exploring equity financing to meet their growth requirements. Unlike traditional debt financing, which imposes a burden of ongoing repayments, equity financing provides capital without the need for regular financial liabilities. This form of financing is particularly appealing to businesses that seek to scale, develop new products, or enter new markets.

As an Accountant, Business Advisor, or virtual CFO, you are often the trusted professional that clients turn to when navigating the complex landscape of equity financing. These businesses, ranging from start-ups to companies with revenues up to $100M, rely on your expertise to help them understand, secure and manage equity funding. From private investments and government grants to venture capital and crowd sourced funding, each financing option comes with unique requirements and opportunities.

This series outlines key equity financing options for SMEs, providing client profiles and service opportunities where you, as a trusted advisor, can add value relating to:

  • Private investment
  • Government grants
  • Capital raising (Section 708 of the Corporations Act)
  • Early-Stage Innovation Company funding
  • Crowd Sourced Funding equity raising
  • Venture capital

Now is the time to explore how these funding opportunities can benefit your clients. Why not take the first step? Visit CPD for Accountants and explore the comprehensive resources on EQUITY FINANCING, and learn how to position yourself as an indispensable partner in their growth journey. Find out more below.
