Exporting Food & Beverages to China? Have Your Product Formula Checked within 5 Min

Exporting Food & Beverages to China? Have Your Product Formula Checked within 5 Min

The Chinese market today is extremely attractive to international companies. In order to seek a wider market and expand sales, more and more food companies are doing business in China. On the other hand, with the continuous improvement of the living standards of Chinese residents, the support of open policies and the continuous improvement of trade facilitation measures, imported food and beverages have gradually become a choice of ordinary people in China. A survey shows that 57.5% of consumers currently spend more than 10% of their total food consumption on imported food.

Commercial Opportunity and Compliance Challenge

Such a large consumer market means huge business opportunities for overseas food companies and domestic importers. Food compliance is an indispensable and important link in the chain for exporting/importing overseas foods into China. During the import process, whether the products and labels meet the requirements of Chinese regulations is an important item for customs inspection.

However, there are so many regulations and standards under China's food regulatory system. The labeling compliance of imported prepackaged foods involves a series of regulations and standards, which requires high professional knowledge.

When selecting food products for exporting to China, first, we need to assess whether the product meets the requirements of Chinese regulations and whether it can be imported.

In the past, we needed to send product information to regulatory colleagues or partners for manual review. It is OK when the number of products is small, but when the number is large, it takes a long time to review. The understanding of the review results also costs internal and external communication. What’s more, when information is passed from one to another between regulatory personnel, importers in China and food-exporting companies, deviations in information transmission and understanding are also prone to occur.

Low efficiency, high professional requirements, so annoying!

So, only the professional regulatory personnel can do the compliance judgment? How can a non-professional get the results of the compliance check quickly?

Today, I’m going to share a simple and efficient way to do compliance checks for exporting food to China. Let’s get started!

An Efficient and Easy Method for Food Compliance

Step 2: Select a Category for Your Product

To check a formula, you need to determine the product category first. Formula Check has a detailed classification tree in accordance with China food regulations and standards. You can use the classification tree to select the product category for your product to review. If you don't know the specific product category, you can also search with keywords to determine and select the category.

Step 3: Compliance Check

When product category selection is done, we can go on with the compliance check.

No need to translate the English ingredient names into Chinese. Just enter the ingredient names in the input box (either batch or single input is OK), and then enter the dosage of each ingredient used in the table. After that, click the "Compliance check" button and you can get the compliance result.

We can see the results in the right part of the table. Click the “Generate report” button and we can get a compliance report immediately.

The Formula Check tool has done data processing of China's food regulations and standards. Therefore, for food compliance check, it is no longer necessary to query each file and standard. The system will automatically query regulatory data and make compliance judgments based on product category, ingredients and their dosage.

And here is a compliance report generated by Formula Check:

And in the "Appendix: Legal basis" part of the report, you can see sources of regulations and standards on which the compliance check is based. And this makes it easy for traceability.

Click the "Download report" button to download the report, which you can share with colleagues or overseas partners. It is clear, no need for translation, and reduce communication costs and errors in information transmission.

Step 4: Make a Chinese Label

If the compliance result shows that the formula meets the requirements of China food regulations and standards, we can move on to China label creation according to China labeling laws. Click the "Generate import food label" button and a Chinese label will be generated automatically.

For example, a label Chinese generated by Formula Check:
