The eyes have it !
Of all the parts of the human body with which we communicate, I truly find the eyes the most fascinating, thought provoking and their true power to explain and understand is underestimated.
Our eyes display our inner wisdom to the world.
The eyes are truly the ‘entry to the soul’ and they really do speak to us. They are one of the great beauties of the human form.
The eyes contain so many mysteries that we believe we have an understanding and yet there is still so much to explore.
As a child we learn from our parents’ eyes show trust, kindness, love and empathy.
When you see someone, and you can use your instinct and life experiences to sense immediately by their eyes that they are OK. We just know! It’s strangely bizarre!
They will usually focus on you directly and not avert their gaze. Their eyes will be bright, shining, happy, pupils clear, powerful, direct, focused and this exudes strength, trust and an unswerving empathy.
They will be happy to see you, you will want to speak to them, build a relationship, develop rapport and even potentially do business with them.
On the other side, you can immediately sense that they are possibly ‘not OK’, and this is even more noticeable when you know someone well and you have calibrated consciously or subconsciously what ‘OK’ looks like.
Their eyes can look grey, sullen, watery, dim or sad and we immediately sense something is wrong even without saying a word.
They will usually avert a direct gaze and we get this feeling that all is ‘not ok’, or maybe they do not want to tell you something. We immediately want to help them or explore further what may be happening in their world for them not to be ’OK’.
Noticing people’s eyes is a much-underestimated skill we can all learn and become more aware of.
In the world dominated by ‘fake news’ the eyes are one are we truly cannot fake! Your eyes really display your inner truth and how you are feeling inside for the world to see, irrespective of what the words are saying!
In addition, we use our eyes to access stories and experiences from within us. When we need to access pictures in our minds we look up, when we need to access sounds we look to the sides and when we need to access our feelings and internal dialogue we look down.
If you are looking for colours and pictures and you are looking down, you really won’t find them there!
As we all know, people make up their mind about people in the first 7-10 seconds in which they meet them. The eyes and how you immediately look at someone play a huge part in this. Look someone straight in eye and maintain your gaze for a second or two. It exudes trust, strength, power and empathy. Not for too long or they will think you are staring or creepy!
When communicating pay special attention to noticing people’s eyes all the time. When you ask a more probing question in a more challenging situation and the subconscious flicks of the eyes, over which we have no conscious control, can provide us with interesting information of any ‘voices, noise or objections’ that may be going on in their subconscious mind. It can allow you to probe deeper and further and can open so many doors.
We focus so much on what people say and put so much emphasis and credibility on the spoken word. It is so important to remember that people’s eyes tell the real truth and it will benefit you now and forever to always remember that the eyes have it!
