As an Architectural Technologist at Bouygues Energies & Services, Industry , Faakhir Khan plays a pivotal role in transforming architectural concepts into functional, innovative designs. His expertise in digital construction and his ability to integrate cutting-edge tools have revolutionised the way his team works.  

From trainee to technologist 

Faakhir began his journey with us in the process engineering department as a Trainee Process Engineer before transitioning to a role as a Strategic Marketing Officer, where he worked on graphic design and brand management. 

“The company saw potential in me and sponsored my degree in Architectural Design and Technology.” - Faakhir Khan. 

This investment resulted in him earning a First-Class degree from Salford University, paving the way for his current role as Architectural Technologist. 

Pioneering digital construction techniques 

Faakhir has been at the forefront of introducing cutting-edge digital tools within the architectural team. His efforts have significantly enhanced the team’s ability to create high quality 3D renderings and fly-through videos. These innovations have become integral to project proposals and client presentations. 

 “When I first started, we were using basic 3D rendering tools. I took the initiative to integrate advanced software like Revit and Unreal Engine into our workflow.” -Faakhir Khan.  

One of his proudest achievements was the introduction of Twinmotion, a real-time 3D immersion tool that allows for live updates and real-time design visualisation. His innovative approach has streamlined internal processes and enhanced Bouygues Energies & Services’ ability to communicate complex design concepts to clients effectively. 

“This tool has revolutionised the way we work, enabling instant design collaboration and reducing the likelihood of errors.” -Faakhir Khan. 

Mastering adaptability in a complex industry 

Faakhir attributes his success in the architectural field to his ability to adapt in an industry where projects are often complex and fast paced. He needs to be able to pre-empt any challenges that could arise in the design. By anticipating these challenges, Faakhir ensures that his designs are detailed and precise from the earliest stages. This proactive approach helps clients make informed decisions, providing them with the confidence that they are working with highly detailed and well-planned designs. 

“My aim is to provide the highest level of detail at the earliest stage for our clients.” -Faakhir Khan. 

Faakhir’s work process 

Faakhir describes his work process as “experimental” and “innovation-driven”. His approach to architectural design is not just about following established procedures but about continuously pushing the boundaries of what is possible. By experimenting with new technologies and techniques, Faakhir ensures that Bouygues Energies & Services delivers cutting-edge solutions that exceed client expectations. 

Engaging with academia 

Beyond his role, Faakhir has also made significant contributions to the broader architectural community. As an alumnus of Salford University, he has been invited to speak at several academic events, including a keynote speech about the innovation and progress of digital construction.  

“It was surreal to speak in front of industry leaders, many of whom were unaware of the digital advancements we’ve made.” -Faakhir Khan.
