Overcome Fear in 5-Seconds
Fear Kept Me Stuck
Fear kept me from realizing my potential for much of my life, and I've learned many lessons about fear over the years. I want to help you develop the skill of overcoming fear quickly.
I've come to understand fear for what it is and developed this Newsletter for you and me.
I'm still learning as I face fears daily. Understanding fear and acting despite it is essential for reaching your true potential.
Why Facing Fear is Important
Everything that will take you to your fullest potential is on the other side of fear, and I'm not talking about walking along the side of the cliff one mile up.
I'm referring to the irrational fears that keep you and me from thriving and that we allow to keep us in surviving mode.
I become more self-confident whenever I face fear and act on my thoughts. Over the years, I've developed a habit and discipline of using fear to my advantage.
I have yet to arrive, and this Newsletter is to help you realize your potential by facing your fears and taking action on your ideas.
Failure is Your Friend
Acting on your thoughts is the best way to experience clarity about your ideas, but perfection holds us back. You will never act on a new idea and be perfect.
Your execution will be flawed initially, and you will fail more often than not initially.
BUT!
Realize that those failures are there to teach you and grow you because you identify what doesn't work, which gives you insight into how to improve your execution next time.
Executing your thoughts will typically look like this...
^^Expect to Repeat the above process for each novel idea.
Watch the Video Below to overcome fear and face imposter syndrome.
Get comfortable taking action, and you'll continue to improve your execution each time you implement a thought.
We all know Edison failed 10,000 times to create the light bulb… and I love his reframing of those failures… “I have not failed 10,000 times—I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. " Today, we are surrounded by light bulbs. Each time he failed he asked himself what he could learn through his flawed execution.
What if Edison gave up on his 9,999th failure?
Failures Are Part of Success
Failures are stepping stones to success, but you must own your flawed actions and ask yourself the right questions when you fail.
For example, "What can I learn from this failure?" and "How can I improve next time?" These questions will stimulate your subconscious to come up with solutions.
The questions you ask yourself determine the direction of your life. I can't tell you how many times I've asked myself,
"What can I do differently so I don't get the same result?" or
"How can I make sure this doesn't happen again?"
Using these types of questions gives me the answer within a day so that I can take improved action with a better strategy.
Why Use The Word Failure?
Anytime I use the word “failure” in my content, I usually get pushback from people who say, “Why not say “learning experience?” I get it and used to say that, but it didn’t grab my attention as much as identifying an action I took as a “failure. “

Identifying something as a failure caused me to get more emotionally involved in the execution I had just taken. I learned more quickly from my flawed actions when I started asking myself the right questions.
The more emotion associated with an action, the more clearly you'll remember it. When you ask yourself the right questions, you can learn from them quicker than making light of failure.
Questions to Ask and Not To Ask After Failure
The questions you ask yourself determine the direction of your life. Ask yourself the wrong questions, and you'll stay stuck in a negative feedback Loop.
Ask yourself the right questions, and you'll move towards your true potential.
Wrong Question after failure - “Why does this always happen to me?” This question puts you in defense and victim mode, where you won't learn or grow.
After failure, the Correction Question: "What can I learn from this so it doesn’t happen again?” This type of question puts you on offense, so you grow and learn through your flawed actions.
The 5-Second Rule to Overcome Fear
Mel Robbins was in a dark place. She was drinking too much, sleeping in, and struggling with depression. Her fears controlled her life.
One evening, as Mel was getting ready for bed, she saw a rocket on the TV with a countdown. 5-4-3-2-1 lift-off.
Mel thought about that and said to herself, "This is how I'm going to face my fears each time. I'll countdown 5-4-3-2-1 and take action." With the 5-second countdown tactic, Mel built a discipline of facing and overcoming her fears.
She stopped being depressed and drinking so heavily, and she realized she had something simple and unique that could help people face and overcome fear.
The 5-Second Rule was born and became a best-selling book. My clients have used it to face and overcome fear numerous times, and I've used it myself.
It works!
Next time you feel fear or anxiety about taking action, count down 5-4-3-2-1 and execute your idea on 1!
It's that simple.
