Failing to Prosecute: The Deadly Consequences

Criminals are prepared to strike at anytime and anyplace. They do not hesitate and will act with impunity dipped in arrogance. The individual must always stay frosty no matter where they find themselves. It’s easy to say you turned your residential alarm on, locked your vehicle doors, and have that proper firearms training. Shopping at a large city department store is no exception to that rule. The quantity of crime occurring in major metropolitan cities has become more than law enforcement can or desires to handle. Statistics declare the trouble that these communities are in and being actively prepared is a must.

There are many things that law enforcement can dial in on that could be improved with little to no effort. Prosecuting people for crimes is certainly in that arena. The failure of public officials to the properly prosecute those who commit blatant crimes has now taken an epic toll in America's largest cities. Once thriving communities are becoming shuttered remnants of their glorious past. This week a young man who was working as a security guard at a Philadelphia Center City Macy's department store was brutally murdered in broad daylight by a knife wielding career criminal. The apprehension was made by local transit police officers. The city has been jolted yest again.

The problem here is that all of this was a preventable consequence of disinterested public officials who decry violence after it happens but never intercept the initial signals. While political motives are always at play it would behoove any and every member of these large cities to focus their attention on combating crime at the lowest level. Once the general public understands that crime will be addressed swiftly and in accordance with the law, they might think about engaging in negative behavior.

The situation here was that a grown man entered a store and began stealing items, not food and water but high-end products. The offender was allegedly escorted off the premises in accordance with store policy since prosecutions of retail theft are at historic low levels. The offender returns sometime later and viciously and purposely attacks two store employees. One perishes and the other forever traumatized by the incident.

Conducting lawful arrests is never a pleasant sight. It's also not a pleasant event for any party involved. That being said the righteous thing to do is to bring an offender before the court for prosecution and sentencing under the law. Allowing individuals go unpunished has set a horrendous precedent for the American nation and there is no sign of the pendulum swinging back to the side of law and order.

There is a place in our society for an honest debate when it comes to law enforcement and how the criminal justice system functions. The responsibility is upon each American to value their communities, themselves, and this country. Those who are elected officials cannot always be blamed for these situations. Those who refuse to prosecute criminals have been placed into power by the people. We are now seeing several years of this lawless behavior and no matter where you fall on the political spectrum, we must come together to nurture a safer and more positive environment for all. Are you staying frosty for the inevitable?
