Falcon Group Facilitates Emergency Repairs on White Metal Bearings

A testament to our commitment is reflected in our Group’s Bearings and Gears Division were entrusted with the responsibility to inspect the Journal Shoe Bearings of a leading cement manufacturer. 

The journal bearings at the plant of this cement company were designed to grind clinker, gypsum, and dry the cement additives. The slide shoe bearing, on the other hand, kept the mill aligned to the mechanical process, allowing the mill to rotate smoothly. When we did the visual inspection of the plant, we collectively decided to dismantle the bearings and transport them to our workshop. Our inspections showed that the bore of the bearings was worn out due to excessive operation and required refurbishment.Each Slide shoe bearing dimensions is 630mm x 900mm and each weighed approximately 1 ton and in total there were 4 pads with an overall diameter of 5.2 meters.

After having a comprehensive and collaborative discussion with the client, we came to the conclusion that the removal of the existing layer of white metal was imperative. We also deposited a new layer of white metal in tandem with industry standards and practices. To ensure proper bonding of the white metal with the base metal, we carried out NDT tests like UT and DPI. Needless to say, the refurbished bearings were delivered to the client as promised with quality reports and as-built drawings. 

While everything was taken care of, the client still had a concern: how to get this plant running as soon as possible? Well, we took it up as a challenge and completed the project within 15 days, working in continuous shifts, to the client's surprise.
