Familia Away from Home: Celebrating Holy Week in Your Hometown
For many families, the holiday season is a time to come together, share traditions, and reconnect with loved ones. But for those who live away from their hometown, it can be challenging to stay connected to their culture and traditions.
As someone who has experienced this firsthand, I understand how important it is to find ways to celebrate and connect with family during the holidays, especially during #HolyWeek. For many Spanish families, #SemanaSanta is a time of deep religious and cultural significance, filled with #procesiones, #musica, #pasos and #familiayaamigos gatherings.
Growing up in a small town in Spain, Holy Week was always a special time for me and my family. I remember spending hours with my cousins, preparing for the processions, and watching the floats #pasos go by with awe and reverence. We would spend the days leading up to Easter Sunday cooking together, visiting with grandparents and aunties, and eating #mona.
When I moved away from my hometown for work, it became more challenging to celebrate Holy Week with my family and friends. But I never lost sight of the importance of these traditions, and I found ways to keep them alive even when I was away.

Now, as a #mother and #educator, I try to pass on these traditions and values to my children and students. I encourage them to explore their own cultural and religious #traditions and to find ways to celebrate and share them with others.
If you're away from your hometown this Holy Week, don't despair. There are many ways to celebrate and connect with your #family and #culture, even if you're miles away. Whether it's through virtual gatherings, sharing traditional recipes, or creating your own new traditions, the most important thing is to stay connected to your roots and the values that define you.
I hope this article inspires you to find your own unique ways to celebrate Holy Week and stay connected to your #familia and culture, wherever you may be.

1yThanks for sharing Esther! As an expat living away from my family, the holidays can be a challenging time. I’m grateful for the technology that allows me to connect with my family during special moments, even if it means waking up in the middle of the night to do so!
