The Financial Futurist Newsletter — Issue #14
This Weekly LinkedIn newsletter from Jason Schenker includes original research from The Futurist Institute and Prestige Economics to help prepare leaders for the future — this week and beyond!
1. The Future of Inflation
Inflation was up 5% in May 2021, which is well above the Federal Reserve's pre-COVID 2% target (red line in the graph below).
I have been warning that year-on-year base effects and economic recovery could put a five-handle on inflation. Now, we are here.
Now, inflation has cemented its place as the economic buzzword of summer
The question is: Will hyperinflation become a big buzzword as well?

2. The Future of Leadership
One of the most important parts of leadership is being seen.
Becoming an author is a big part of being seen as a leader!
That's why I founded The Author Institute last year.
We help leaders quickly write and publish complete books that position them as thought leaders and meaningfully increase their professional visibility and career opportunities.

3. The Future of Travel
What will happen to travel in the wake of COVID — and in the decade beyond?
A collection of essays in The Future of Travel: Trends and Technologies Shaping the Decade Ahead from The Futurist Institute answers this critical question.
Leading experts, futurists, and executives in travel, leisure, and hospitality contributed essays focused on the most important future trends impacting these industries, including the associated opportunities, priorities, perception shifts, and challenges that will shape the decade ahead.
Buckle up and come along for the ride as The Futurist Institute presents these big ideas and visions for the future of travel!

The Future of Travel is currently the #1 New Release in Business Travel Reference books!
4. The Future of Monetary Policy
A big part of the economic story this week will be a Fed decision.
While no changes in interest rate policies are expected at this meeting, there could be significant changes in something called the Dot Plot.
The Dot Plot
The Dot Plot is the visual depiction of FOMC member forecasts of future (end of year) interest rates that are set by the Fed.
The Dot Plot is likely to go up this week, indicating more hawkish Fed member expectations for future interest rates than in the last set of FOMC member forecasts from March 2021 (on the right).
To learn more about the Dot Plot, check out my LinkedIn Learning video about it:
5. The Future of Jobs and Work
One year ago, over 30 million people were jobless and collecting unemployment.
Now, it's almost half that at 15.3 million. That's still a big number and it implies a 9.5% unemployment rate.
Yet the official U.S. unemployment rate from the BLS was only 5.8% in May.
So, what's going?
There is sometimes a big difference between joblessness and unemployment.
