Finding the courage to challenge

Finding the courage to challenge

Around the world there are champions who level the playing field. They speak out injustice. They stand up for equal rights. They challenge the status quo, no matter how small. They drive change.

Thinking a lot about my part in #choosetochallenge for this year’s International Women’s day, I’m in awe of the women who have such courage that they do challenge, they do fight, they do make a difference.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am no shy flower. But I’m often filled with self-doubt. Speaking out is hard. In choosing to challenge, I need to raise my voice. I need to be brave. And for me, there is sometimes personal struggle in finding my voice. Shaping the words that I want to say (and not letting them muddle in my emotions).

I want to be an advocate women’s voices where there’s injustice, spotlight inequality, and be strong for those that need support. To do this, I need to be braver. And you know what, I can find courage. Because I do not do this alone. I am surrounded by the power of the female network. Communities where I am supported, where I can support others. Places where I can share my skills and knowledge, and where others do the same for me.

Women helping women. It’s a powerful thing. It gives us courage to challenge. Hehe, sometime, it gives me the courage to ROAR it too!

So, let me share some of the spaces, communities and networks of women in our creative, advertising, tech and marketing world (many recommended by the lovely DLL network). Places where you can be you. Places to find your voice. Places filled with camaraderie and friendship. Places to be part of something bigger. Then, if like me, you need a dose of courage to really challenge and speak out, you know where to go.
