Finding powerful solutions in difficult situations
Difficulties are part of life and often it's not possible to completely change complex situations like the current one. What we can change is how we approach them, inspired by a quote from a Nobel Prize winner in Medicine.
“Do not fear difficult moments. The best comes from them.”
- Rita Levi Montalcini
Yes, but how can we focus on the positive side of every situation? At Pieralisi, we see needs and challenges as stimuli to create more effective solutions, sustainable for the environment and our business.
From challenges to positive responses: some examples
There are global issues that heavily impact many areas and require increasingly significant efforts. Our goal is to provide an equally strong response.
💣 Decline in natural resources: According to UN data from 2023, the global urban population facing water scarcity will double by 2050 (compared to 2016). This challenge engages our engineering DNA in the development of wastewater treatment plants all around the world. Dehydration of sludge achieves the double ecological benefit of water recovery and waste reduction.
The positive idea: to go beyond the most urgent demand (water scarcity) and think about other possible achievable benefits.
☀️ Climate Change: it can pose significant challenges, particularly in the agricultural sector, as seen in 2023 with olive cultivation. In Jaen, Spain, an early heatwave caused the flowers to "burn," preventing them from fertilizing. In response, we provided olive millers with increasingly controllable and adaptable systems tailored to the rheological characteristics of the available raw materials and specific needs.
The positive idea: our goal is to make the best out of every situation. In this case, it means producing high-quality products and optimizing the use of the remaining raw materials.
⚡️ Catastrophic events: In '23, a flood damaged the biological treatment plant in Larissa (Greece). Our branch Pieralisi Hellas S.A. provided a mobile dehydration unit with a centrifugal separator to ensure biological treatment even during emergencies.
The positive idea: to show closeness to customers and stand by them especially in difficult times.

How to address economic challenges in the market?
When the macroeconomic situation is uncertain, focus is on saving opportunities or on capital recovery. For us at Pieralisi, this transition happens through technological solutions.
💰 Unsustainable productions: Some processing cycles, like meat processing, generate a large amount of waste, making them environmentally and economically unsustainable. Reusing waste as secondary raw material (SRM) is possible with plants and solutions that involve the use of decanters and separators: our technology offers the possibility of recovering such waste for pet food production.
The positive idea: to intercept the needs of a growing market (projected annual growth for pet food exceeds 5%) to alleviate expenses in a challenging market.
📉 Reduction of available capital: In recent years, it has been difficult for some companies to invest in a new plant, even when necessary. That's why we globally committed to 2Life, a line of refurbished and efficient products like new ones.
The positive idea: to bridge the gap between desire and reality even in unfavorable periods for the customer, in this case, with plants equipped with the same warranty as new ones.
