Finding Purpose Through Service: The Inspiring Journey of Tejaswini Shetty
Over four years, Tejaswini has become an integral part of Bhumi's Bangalore chapter. From coordinating events like Nakshatra to recording over 400 audiobooks for visually impaired children, her contributions are profound.
In a world bustling with individual aspirations, there are those who shine by channeling their talents toward uplifting others. Tejaswini Shetty, a passionate volunteer with Bhumi’s Bengaluru chapter, exemplifies this spirit of selfless service. Balancing her roles as a computer science lecturer, a dedicated mother, and a Bhumi volunteer, Tejaswini’s story highlights the power of compassion and commitment.
A Foundation of Values
Born and raised in Udupi, Tejaswini’s education and upbringing were steeped in values of empathy and service. Educated in Catholic schools, her participation in Scouts and Guides programs and moral science lessons sowed early seeds of community responsibility. The absence of structured NGOs in her hometown shaped her unique perspective: that communities could thrive through collective support and shared humanity.
This mindset accompanied her to Bengaluru, where her quest for meaningful service found its anchor in Bhumi. During the pandemic, Tejaswini stumbled upon Bhumi through a friend, participating in her first online Nakshatra event. That experience, combined with her drive to make a tangible impact, marked the beginning of her fulfilling journey with Bhumi.
A Journey of Impact
Tejaswini’s contributions within Bhumi have been as diverse as they are impactful. She began by recording audiobooks for visually impaired students, creating accessible educational content. As her involvement deepened, she coordinated Nakshatra events, supported COVID relief efforts, and organized health camps for underprivileged children.
Her fluency in Kannada enabled her to build meaningful connections with shelter homes, fostering trust and collaboration. She recounts how these bonds grew into personal relationships, with children sending her festive greetings and heartfelt messages, a reminder of the enduring impact of her work.
“I believe in doing my duty and leaving the rest to God,” Tejaswini shares. This philosophy has guided her through four years of tireless volunteering, during which she has consistently juggled her responsibilities without losing sight of her mission.

Beyond Volunteering
Tejaswini’s personal interests add depth to her inspiring persona. A chess enthusiast and former college team player, she enjoys playing the game with her son. Her love for writing has seen her poems published, reflecting her talent for blending creativity with emotion. She is also a seeker of balance, finding solace in meditation and the teachings of Art of Living.
Her passion for integrating science and spirituality underscores her inquisitive nature. “I believe science and spirituality complement each other,” she says, recommending books that explore this intersection to others. This philosophical approach not only enriches her own life but also fuels her empathetic interactions with the community.
A Reluctant Leader, A Respected Mentor
Though initially hesitant to take on leadership roles, Tejaswini’s contributions naturally earned her respect within Bhumi. Encouraged by peers, she recently assumed a leadership role in the National Support Team (NST), overseeing key initiatives such as fulfilling over 4,500 wishes during the Joy to the World campaign. Her humility shines through as she emphasizes learning from others and creating opportunities for impact over personal recognition.
Her dedication to health initiatives stands out among her achievements. Partnering with RV Dental College, Tejaswini organized dental camps for shelter home children, ensuring they received necessary treatments and spectacles. “This was one of the most meaningful projects I’ve been part of,” she reflects.
Inspiration for All
Tejaswini’s journey embodies the ethos of Bhumi: empowering individuals to transform society. Her ability to weave service into her daily life, from volunteering to mentoring others, is a reminder that impact begins with intent.
She remains a humble force, inspiring countless others to find joy in service. “At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that our support reaches those in need,” she concludes.
Tejaswini’s narrative is not just a chronicle of accomplishments; it’s a call to action for everyone to contribute, in their own way, to building a kinder, more inclusive world.
