India's financial sector is sound and resilient: RBI Governor
India's financial sector is resilient and poised for growth, according to RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. Despite global challenges, India stands out due to its strong macroeconomic fundamentals, favorable demographics, and rapid digitalization. Recent financial results and macro stress tests indicate the banking sector's robustness. Structural transformations in the financial landscape, driven by technological innovations and changing consumer preferences, are fostering competition and collaboration. Initiatives like UPI, regulatory sandboxes, and co-lending models are enhancing financial inclusion. However, these changes also present challenges for regulatory oversight and business model adaptation.
Telangana government to set up education commission
The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, plans to set up an education commission to address sector reforms. Measures include recruiting 11,000 teachers, conducting teachers' eligibility tests, and providing uniforms and textbooks on the first day of school. The government aims to enhance quality education, skill training, and employment generation from Anganwadis to universities. Challenges highlighted include the lack of teaching staff in universities, the absence of vice chancellors, and inadequate facilities and skills in Anganwadis. The commission will address these issues through comprehensive policy reforms.
Education Budget 2024: Major Investments in Skills and Internships, Funding Shifts for Higher Education
The Education Budget 2024 allocates Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education, employment, and skills development. Key initiatives include financial support for student loans up to Rs 10 lakh, a new skilling scheme in collaboration with states and industries, and upgrading 1,000 ITIs to align with industry needs. The government will provide internships to one crore youth, with stipends and assistance funded by CSR contributions. Despite increased funding for central universities, the UGC budget was reduced by 60.99%. The budget highlights growing numbers of higher educational institutes and women in STEM courses, reflecting the impact of NEP 2020.
