I've been on and off with Fitness for more than 7 years now, but what has changed my life in the last 18 months? Let me explain and I hope you get some motivation from it and you make fitness your 2024 New Year's resolution with seriousness.
1) During Covid when I left the Gym (I was on and off), I set up my Gym at home but it didn't give me enough energy and the right environment to push my boundaries. But, I knew I had to do better as I was also inching towards my 40s.
2) I, first took 6 months of Gym subscription and tested my patience and continuity and when I proved the value of it by being regular at the Gym, I invested in an 18 months of long Gym subscription. I invested in it because I proved my worth in the early 6 months.
3) Your body listens and adapts to the changes depending upon the following factors:
- Your age as the metabolism (BMR) differs for different age groups
- How committed you are towards the goal you've set up
- What are you investing for this journey; it can be getting yourself a fitness coach, a diet plan, a pair of good running shoes or anything you can think of that motivates you. Always start small and reward yourself when you achieve.
- How aggressive you are towards your goal as we need to remember setting up smaller goals and making your body change slowly has a long-term effect
4) If you're starting from the beginning, make the rule of the thump or the law of minimalism - workout at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Do at least 15 minutes of cardio and 15 minutes of strength training as a combo.
5) While weight lifting, always start with lightweight and listen to your body. Your body will automatically tell you when you're ready to lift more weight.

6) NEVER EVER DO 'EGO LIFTING'. Remember, your competition is with you and not with others.
7) Fitness and its result depends on three important factors mentioned below:
- Diet - 50% weightage
- Sleep/Rest - 25% weightage
- Exercise - 25% weightage
8) The above stats might sound surprising, but this is the truth. Diet plays the most important part of your fitness or weight loss/weight gain journey.
9) When you want to go on a diet, always start slow and subsequently control it; otherwise, it may backfire and mess up your digestion or immune system.
10) Gym is not the only medium for fitness or weight loss/weight gain. It's just one of the mediums. Choose anything you want like Swimming, Running, Walking, Badminton, Tennis, or anything of your choice. The key is to be regular and follow the DSE rule (Diet, Sleep, Exercise).
Summary: Invest in your fitness, control your diet, motivate yourself, and look for a marathon as fitness is a journey, not a destination. My journey of i) 80KG to 72KG, ii) running from 500 meters to 5KM, iii) only Gymming to Running, Swimming, and now Boxing, and iv) eating junk to eating a balanced and healthy diet are my achievements so far. 2023 has been a great year for me from an overall fitness perspective and I am committed to investing more and taking my fitness journey to the next level in 2024.
