In today's society, whether it is a car, household appliances, office supplies or engineering manufacturing, basically are closely related to electricity and flame. They bring a lot of convenience to our lives, but at the same time also brings a lot of safety hazards, so the flame retardant properties of the material as an important factor to be considered. Which flame retardant ABS and flame retardant PC/ABS as its popular application materials, we should use which one?

Flame-retardant PC/ABS and flame-retardant ABS materials because of its excellent overall performance, widely favored by major injection molding plants, we will be the next from the following points of view for you to analyze the difference between these two materials in detail!

1.Flame retardant performance

Flame-retardant PC/ABS and flame-retardant ABS can do V0 and 5VA level, but flame-retardant PC/ABS more halogen-free flame-retardant system, this system has no halogen, injection molding and processing of small odor, etc., and halogen-free flame-retardant PC/ABS can be done to achieve thinner flame-retardant grade, such as 1.0mm below, which is more difficult to achieve the flame-retardant ABS; flame-retardant ABS more brominated flame-retardant, this system has more excellent and stable flame retardant effect, but the relative odor is larger. This system has more excellent flame retardant effect and more stable, but relatively large odor. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages;

2.Processing performance

Flame-retardant PC/ABS processing odor is small, does not corrode the mold, but need to be processed at higher temperatures, relative molding difficulty; flame retardant ABS processing odor is larger, long time processing is easy to its flame retardant is easy to decomposition of acid gas corrosion of the mold, but the processing temperature is low, easy to process molding. But for thin-walled products, point gate or hot runner process, halogen-free flame retardant PC/ABS seems to be more advantageous, because of its high mobility, flame retardant is not easy to decompose, so the defective rate is much lower than flame retardant ABS. Moreover, once the processing temperature of flame retardant ABS is too hot, it is very easy to have black spot, yellowing, silver wire or even burnt.

3.Physical properties

Flame-retardant PC/ABS tensile, bending, impact performance is significantly higher than flame-retardant ABS, flame-retardant ABS notched impact strength is generally in the 20KJ/m or so, while flame-retardant PC/ABS can generally do more than 45 KJ/m. So on this point, the alloy material is superior to flame-retardant ABS. So on this point, flame retardant alloy material is superior to flame retardant ABS. However, it should be noted that the flame retardant PC / ABS alloy contains PC components, may lead to long-term stress cracking problems, such as just after the screws are qualified products, but placed for some time, with the release of stress cracking possibility. So the selection of materials must do a good job of adequate material testing.

4. Appearance

Flame retardant PC / ABS gloss is generally higher than flame retardant ABS materials, so the general high-end products and appearance of the parts will be alloy material to highlight the high-end materials.

5.Chemical resistance

Flame retardant PC/ABS is not as good as flame retardant ABS in terms of chemical resistance. So in the application of lead-acid battery is still a large-scale use of flame retardant ABS materials, so as not to leak the battery liquid inside the battery shell caused by corrosion leading to accidents. The latest lithium batteries, flame retardant PC / ABS is more and more widely used, the reason is that lithium battery bracket more thin-walled injection molding process, and flame retardant PC / ABS better processing and mechanical properties are more excellent.

6. Price

Generally speaking, the price of Flame Retardant PC/ABS is higher as the upper substitute of Flame Retardant ABS. However, in the past year, with the price of raw materials, especially the price of PC and phosphorus flame retardant falling, while the bromine antimony flame retardant is still at a high level, resulting in the situation that the price of flame retardant PC/ABS is lower than that of flame retardant ABS instead. Of course, the long-term price mainly depends on the supply and demand relationship and raw material price trend.
