Flow and Creativity, Creativity and Flow.
We often hear people talk about how flow is good for creativity. But this is a post about the opposite: About how creativity is good for flow.
Flow - a state of intense engagement, focus, and contentment in the present moment and current activity - is of course great for the development of creativity. It’s when we are in a state of flow that we can do some of our best creative work.
But how can creativity help us GET INTO flow?
Sometimes starting a creative project can help create the suitable environment for getting into flow.
For example: today when I sat down with Remigijus Savickas I asked him: “Can I turn this conversation into an interview about creativity and flow?”, and suddenly a normal conversation turned into a creative project of writing this text. Our conversation became more focused, I became more curious, the feedback between us became quicker - and the conversation created a sense of flow in both of us.
So the lesson becomes: If you want to become more creative practice getting into a flow state, but if you want to become better at getting into a flow state, then become better at starting creative projects.

Flow and creativity - two siblings of human joy that go hand in hand.
(ps. This text was inspired by a conversation I had today with Remigijus Savickas, a Lithuanian flow hacker who helps CEOs and entrepreneurs become better at getting into flow. I met him today in Stockholm as he was here to give a workshop for a bank tomorrow.
Remigijus also told me that when he wrote his book he would read in a good book for a few pages to get inspired by excellent writing and then he would write a few pages himself. When I write a book, I sit down and start writing and the concept of starting to write inspires me to get into a state of flow. As I said: Flow and Creativity - they go both ways.)
