Food Insecurity and Repairing the Relationship Between The Police and Minority Communities

For several months now, I have been involved with a local grassroots group, Pillars and Bridges of Tucson, who have been proactively engaging in conversations with the Tucson Police Department and creating "community unity" events with the intention to foster healing of the divisions between minority communities and law enforcement.

On Saturday, 1/20/21, Pillars and Bridges, Tucson Police Department, and BMW Ministries led a community food distribution event at the parking lot of Food City on St. Mary's Road here in Tucson, Arizona. One thousand boxes of fresh food was freely given to anyone in need. Dozens of volunteers showed up to help including: IAmYou360, Pima County Attorney Laura Conover and her staff, representatives from the Mayor's office, Dignity Car Club Tucson and people from all walks of life.

Relationship-building and mutual understanding between different groups of people takes one positive act and one conversation at a time. It is a privilege to give back to my community by donating my photography services to Pillars and Bridges whose mission is to foster the healing between minority communities and law enforcement.

Given the bombardment of negative imagery that often dominates social media, this is, instead, a collection of good people doing good things. If you are interested in viewing the all of the 80 images I processed from the event, you can see them on my Facebook page.
