FOOD POISONING


Food poisoning is not someone adding poison to your food, it is mostly caused by being indifference or the I don’t care attitude. When you have food poisoning, the first thing you want is relief. Your symptoms depend on what caused you to get sick, but you usually have diarrhea, throwing up, and an upset stomach at the least. It’s no fun, but it’s how your body tries to kick out the toxins and get you better.

 April 7, 2015, there was a report of food poisoning caused by toxic metals in Zamfara state which resulted to the death of numerous infants and children

 In 2016, Alex Iwobi: Super Eagles star hospitalized after suffering food poisoning, The 19-year-old was missing from training because of food poisoning he suffered in Super Eagles camp.

 In 2017, Three people were reported dead after reportedly eating amala in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State. 

 In Ilorin, There was also a report of 60 cases and 3 deaths due to food borne disease with a symptomatic gastro intestinal disorders among people who ate in a funeral service

 There was another outbreak of food poisoning in Ibadan, caused by Salmonella typhimurium, in a sandwich filling that claimed about 20 lives.

This is becoming unbecoming in this country, food poisoning is taking lives in hundreds monthly, the recorded one and the unrecorded one. Food are meant to be substance taken for the purpose of growth, vitality and strength suddenly they are traps of death for the casualty. And human survival hinges on the availability of food, no man can live in the absence of food. This brings us to a point of thinking straight about the subject matter because it unimaginable for an individual to embark on a journey of no return because of the nature of food material he bought.

Causes of Food poisoning

1. Preservation during cultivation

Consistent purging after eating beans products that are preserved with pesticides which could cause diarrhoea. This is called a chemical gastroenteritis and shouldn't be treated with flagyl. (flagyl is used when some bacteria are causing the gastroenteritis) instead watch where the beans products are bought from or change your customer. 

The second remedy would be when you wants to cook beans you should boil the beans for 10minutes and drain the initial water (this will help to discard some residual chemical preservatives) before you puts in more water to continue the cooking

2. Inappropriate Storage. 

Continuous stomach ache from consumed amala could be harmful and eventually pose serious threat to the body. 

Remedy

After purchase in market keep them safe closet/ to hide the food from danger. The essence of this is because most times roaches and wall gecko feast on our food materials and we believe they are normal and not dangerous. It is also important to maintain proper kitchen hygiene, to reduce risks of bacteria or virus growth and food poisoning. The common food poisoning illnesses include Listeriosis, Mycotoxicosis, Salmonellosis, E. coli, Staphylococcal food poisoning and Botulism.

3. Contaminated Water Bodies:

After eating vegetables, crabs and other aquatic animals which we consume almost on daily basis and the body is reacting to them it could be as a result of harvesting with chemical, this is rare because of the new age rules which frowned against using chemicals to harvest them. But where the water bodies has been contaminated through leaching, eutrophication etc. It’s going to be dangerous eating those as foods.


 Food handlers who have norovirus can also spread it as they prepare meals for customers.


Remedy


Desist from getting sea foods from people you can’t verify their sources of harvesting, moreover, people should be sensitized on how to effectively harvest in more easy way locally and peradventure learning how to adopt the use of sophisticated technology in their harvesting.


4. Poor Cooking

Most processed food might not have this problem but if you are the kind of person who is always in a hurry when you are cooking raw meat and you didn’t take time to cook it effectively it can be dangerous. If you are found of taking raw milk and all others from cow beware!!! If you will need to eat anything raw then it should be properly cleansed. 


Conclusively, prevention they say is far better than cure, why not do the needful instead of visiting hospital for the consequences. For those with relative who are indifferent and just would not pay attention to what enters their mouth or not, the basic thing they need is proper orientation and sensitization.
