DISCOVER FORWARD-LOOKING MENU TRENDS

It’s time to refresh tried-and-true favorites with forward-looking flavor trends for 2023. According to Datassential’s 2023 Annual Trends Report, one of the key indicators that will continue to impact the trend landscape in 2023 are Gen Z-driven social media (particularly TikTok) trends. Think cloud bread (an airy, gluten-free bread that’s often colorful), plant-forward corn ribs, or over-the-top dessert boards or butter boards, the latter of which are taking over the internet and inspiring foodservice innovation. Some of Datassential’s Foods & Flavors to Watch for 2023 include mangonada (a sweet and spicy, blended, Mexican, mango beverage), yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit), and ube (a vibrant purple, Filipino root vegetable that’s being leveraged to naturally color desserts, beverages, and baked goods). Spicy maple flavor and mushrooms are also 2023 Foods & Flavors to Watch, with applications for savory pastries and pizza.

PUT IT INTO ACTION

Datassential’s 2023 Flavors to Watch are a jumping-off-point for inspiration. Take advantage of flavor trends through versatile, on-hand ingredients to add variety and interest. For example, consider mixing ube or matcha with Rich Products’ Soft Whip for a trend-forward milkshake or latte topper. Pay attention to social media trends, too, as they can help capture the attention of a younger audience.
