Former U.S. Presidential Special Envoy to Sudan, Andrew Natsios, Dismayed at Lack of Global Attention to South Sudan as Failed State
Please watch this video (see link below) of the remarks of former U.S. Presidential Special Envoy to Sudan, Andrew Natsios, at the headquarters of the Society for International Development in Washington, D.C. (SID-W). Hosted by SID-W Board Member and former USAID Assistant Administrator, Jeffrey Grieco, former Presidential Special Envoy Natsios lays out the geo-political threat of continued South Sudan state failure and the strategic implications of increased instability and humanitarian disaster going forward for the region. Natsios urges a major diplomatic initiative seeking the removal of external state actors engaged militarily in South Sudan combined with a mediated and brokered humanitarian cease-fire in famine affected areas followed by conclusion of a peace agreement where local, faith-based organizations and civil society groups can begin grassroots reconciliation initiatives to help ease tensions between warring tribes.
