Carlos Ghosn for president: Lebanese show support for Nissan’s Interpol-wanted ex-ceo years after music box escape
Lebanese citizens express their backing for Carlos Ghosn's presidential candidacy, years following his dramatic escape from Japan, orchestrated through a music box. In 2020, his audacious flight from house arrest not only garnered global attention, earning him a Netflix documentary and a spot on Interpol's wanted list, but it also solidified his reputation as the savior of Renault and Nissan from financial ruin.
Carlos Ghosn, revered for his business acumen and leadership, remains a figure of multiple identities - a businessman, a devoted family man, a fugitive, and, as recent discussions suggest, a potential leader for Lebanon. Despite facing criminal allegations, including accusations of financial misconduct, Ghosn vehemently refutes the charges against him.
Following his arrest in 2018, Ghosn endured months of solitary confinement, multiple arrests, releases on bail, and eventual house arrest before engineering his daring New Year's Day escape. With the assistance of a former Green Beret commando, Ghosn orchestrated his clandestine exit from Japan, concealed within a large audio equipment case utilized by a band hired to perform at his dinner. Subsequently, he was whisked away on a series of private jets, ultimately finding sanctuary in his hometown of Beirut.
