Marvell Prestera Ethernet switch and Alaska PHY solution product portfolio provides a full set of connectivity capabilities including GE, 2.5GE, 5GE, 10GE, 25GE, 100GE and 400GE, aiming to meet the requirements of "Borderless Enterprise" The needs of different speeds, densities and scales of network architectures.

In order to ensure that today's enterprise IT organizations provide employees with a seamless experience, including zero downtime, higher bandwidth performance to achieve video and content sharing, as well as data protection and security assurance. As a company focused on building key technologies for data infrastructure, Marvell has announced the launch of integrated access, aggregation and core Prestera Ethernet switches and Alaska PHY solutions product portfolio, including GE, 2.5GE, 5GE, 10GE, 25GE A full set of connectivity capabilities including, 100GE and 400GE, and this is also the first major release of Marvell after launching a new brand identity in May this year.

For the enterprise market, artificial intelligence, security, end-to-end device management, automation, and multi-cloud/hybrid cloud are the areas they are most concerned about. The outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic has accelerated the pace of digital transformation of enterprises and made their needs in the above-mentioned fields more urgent. Eric Yeh, director of marketing for

Marvell’s network products, told the “Electronic Engineering Album” that the main reason for launching a series of product portfolios instead of a single product is that they hope to fit the large, medium and small enterprise IT organizations’ demands on networks of different speeds, densities and scales. The requirements of the architecture, he called it "the requirements of the Borderless Enterprise".

Specifically, the Ethernet PHY devices in this product portfolio have data rates ranging from 10Mbps to 400Gbps. Copper PHY products have advantages in wiring range, EMI immunity, and low power consumption, and are specifically optimized for the 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps data rates required for Wi-Fi 6 uplink; optical PHY products provide excellent SerDes performance, flexible transmission and MACsec encryption function under ultra-high data rate. The latest product, the new four-port device, can extend the 2.5Gbps rate Cat5e cable to more than 230 meters, and supports remote deployment of access points outside of the building structure wiring.

In fact, the history of Ethernet is very long, but in Eric Yeh's view, the previous enterprise networks were relatively "dumb", with "data not dropping" as the basic criterion, but this is increasingly unacceptable for modern enterprises. Coupled with the "cloud" changes and the increasing popularity of cloud applications, enterprise-level Ethernet devices have an increasing demand for visibility, security, performance, and intelligence.

Therefore, Marvell not only implemented components such as TrackIQ, NetIQ and SecureIQ, but also integrated programmable pipeline processing units and computing resources in the Prestera switch architecture to support the retail, manufacturing, hotel, and financial industries for the network. The flexible planning of new application scenarios such as education and education provides investment protection.

• TrackIQ-can provide accurate line rate real-time telemetry data on network traffic, abnormal conditions and equipment health, promote detailed visibility and operational analysis, help achieve network automation and accelerate forensic analysis.

• NetIQ—Enterprise networks need to become smarter and smarter. Therefore, intelligent workload management functions can drive intelligent data processing at the network edge, support optimization of data processing at or near the network access edge, and help realize AI applications and machine learning. Self-healing, self-adaptation and feature engineering to improve the performance of hybrid cloud architecture.

• SecureIQ-Provides network embedded credibility and advanced security, protecting hardware and network software from ever-changing security threats. These switches integrate secure boot and IEEE 802.1AE media access control security (MACsec) engines to provide encryption-based security for all Ethernet traffic passing through network-oriented ports.

• Performance-equipped with Wi-Fi 6-enabled access points and high-performance terminal equipment to facilitate the transition to multi-Gigabit Ethernet connections. The product portfolio provides cross-network capacity to meet the ever-increasing workload and data cloudization bandwidth requirements, which is essential to ensure network performance and continuity.

Flexible Prestera switch architecture

The new generation of enterprise-level switches include software development kits, adding industry-standard switch abstract interfaces, enabling network system vendors to migrate between different network chip choices. The ecosystem supports various commercial network software solutions such as DENT of the Linux Foundation, SONiC of the Open Computing Project, and turnkey network software stack independently developed by Marvell.

"In fact, not only enterprise networks, operators have also paid great attention to the launch of this product portfolio." Eric Yeh told the media that the reason is that with the development and popularization of new data-intensive applications, network connections and traffic Continued growth has put forward higher demands on network bandwidth. Although the bandwidth and network speed can be improved by deploying Multi-Gigabit Ethernet and 400GE backbone network, the latest 5G and Wi-Fi available bandwidth still have bottlenecks in backhaul. Therefore, operators hope that the development of the infrastructure will be more intelligent, and the processing capabilities at the edge of the network will be more powerful, so as to effectively expand and handle the ever-increasing number of bandwidth and nodes.

Data from Cisco shows that by 2022, the global mobile network will usher in more than 12 billion mobile devices and Internet of Things connections, and these mobile devices will support multiple functions. From 2017 to 2022, global mobile data traffic will increase 6 times, or equivalent to an annual growth rate of 42%. Specific to the current China, many households are also entering the "three gigabit" era of "Gigabit 5G, Gigabit broadband, and Gigabit Wi-Fi". The arrival of this era of high-speed Internet access in all scenarios will affect corporate networks and data. The center posed new challenges.

This means that on the one hand, relevant manufacturers must comprehensively improve the performance of the access, aggregation, and core layers, and on the other hand, they must also consider the cost of the access layer to prevent enterprises from being overburdened. Eric Yeh emphasized that Marvell has noticed this trend. While strengthening the layout of the enterprise network, it has also set its sights on the edge network. This infrastructure must be able to identify specific applications and infrastructure requirements through intelligent technology, and allow processing in Carry out closer to the demand and make it develop in a smarter and more efficient direction.
