#FourMinuteFridays - This Week at the PorterShed
Friday is always a great time to reflect back on the past five days; we love to recap the highlights at the PorterShed each week, which is why we enjoy sharing our #FourMinuteFridays. This time around, we have updates about Tesla test drives, VIP visitors, amazing events, professional musings, and so much more.
In the spirit of summarizing, our very own Programme Manager Rosemary Gallagher has put together a lovely week-in-the-life piece that paints a picture about her role. It's a timely article - which you can read here - because we're currently hiring for the position of Programme Associate. So, if you like the sound of Rosemary's role, you should apply and find out more. As she writes:
If you'd like to start a new challenge and you also think September is the best time for new beginnings, check out our Programme Associate role so you can have weeks like mine.
On Tuesday, the folks from Tesla popped in to provide us with an opportunity to experience a test drive in their Model T and Model Y cars. Our members took a tour around the city, and they really enjoyed the chance to get behind the wheel of the electric vehicles. It was a great way for people to feel what its like to drive the future, and the Tesla staff were super helpful. "Very impressive, and such a smooth driving experience," one of our members said. You can check out some of the photos on Twitter right here.
Also on Tuesday, Joanne Sweeney, CEO and author at Public Sector Marketing Institute, popped into Bowling Green to make use of our high-end podcast studio. It was fantastic to have Joanne in, and she's set to come back next week to record the next two chapters of her audiobook. We'll be ready with a hot cup of coffee to warm the vocal chords, Joanne!
Naughton Fellow and University of Notre Dame student Laura Hession visited us as we kickstart a collaborative project - it was great to meet you in person, Laura (and congrats on graduating this week)! We love when people come to visit us, and Laura was the best cheerleader for her university - off the back of her glowing reviews, we might just have to pay the lovely folks across the pond a visit in the near future.
We also had a super interesting visit from Galway Technology Centre's Brian Muldoon. Brian is the Client Scaling Manager at the GTC, and he works hard to help scale-ups in the Galway area. The folks at GTC are doing trojan work in Galway's scale-up ecosystem, and it was lovely to have Brian in for a coffee and a chat about ideas. You're welcome in any time, Brian!

On Thursday, we had a super-successful WebThreeIRL event at Bowling Green. Over 40 people turned up to attend the event - and you can see our update on why it was so successful right here - and it was fantastic to see such a great crowd set up in our event space. Cormac Rowe was the event organizer, and we must give a hearty shout-out to him for pulling it all together and getting the show running. Cormac himself is deep in the world of web3, and he brought a whole host of fantastic speakers in to explain the likes of NFTs, the metaverse, and so much more. PorterShed member Rob O' Shaughnessy was one of the speakers, and he provided a fabulous run-down of his role as CTO of Metadomo (and we'll be sharing more of his thoughts in an article we're running next week). We're looking forward to hostig more events like this in the future - we loved having the Galway web3 community in our space, and we'd welcome them again anytime!
