Course Description:

Welcome to the world of nondestructive testing! Whether you’re new to the field or a member of the general public wanting to know how NDT works to make the world a safer place, this course provides a basic understanding of NDT. You’ll learn the ins and outs of the profession from an insider’s perspective, including a range of test methods and techniques that technicians use to perform inspections. As such, the course is intended as a broad overview establishing a firm foundation for further exploration. Even if you’re well entrenched in your NDT career, you may find the course useful as a refresher of all things NDT.

This course is not intended to meet the training requirements of SNT-TC-1A or CP-189 for the certification of Level I, Level II, or Level III personnel. This course is not eligible for Level III recertification points. 

Objectives:

  • Convey the importance of nondestructive testing (NDT) in modern life
  • Describe the primary goals, tasks, and responsibilities of NDT
  •  List benefits of NDT for industry sectors where it is commonly employed
  • List six different NDT occupations and explain how ethical behavior by NDT personnel impacts the profession as a whole
  • Compare the job functions and responsibilities of three different levels of NDT personnel and describe typical places where their roles are performed
  • Explain how NDT personnel become qualified in a method and certified to use the method on the job
  • Provide an overview of the features, principles, and applications of nine commonly used and accessory NDT methods recognized by SNT-TC-1A
  • Provide an overview of the features, principles, and applications of seven additional NDT methods that have more specialized applications
  • Explain how the appropriate NDT method is selected for an application
  • Describe how and where various discontinuities (flaws, anomalies, disruptions) occur in manufacturing and service
  • Explain the importance of procedural documentation in NDT operations
  • Identify career opportunities within the profession of NDT
  • Discover educational opportunities and resources to kick your NDT career into high gear
