Freedom from being Unkind: The thriving assets at workplace
Communication
Communication is an act of sharing or exchanging information, ideas, or feelings, which has a very key role in the workplace. Weakness in communication among the employees makes an unkind workplace. By crystal clear communication, targets/goals are achieved with the lowest gap in expectations. Any means of communication (like verbal, visual, or written) is crucial for the enhancement of knowledge and skill of the employees and boosts to chase the goals of the managers. Unclear communication brings failure, anger, sadness, career and professional losses, etc and transforms an employee to be unkind. Therefore, each individual, team, group and organisation should have clear communication to thrive in a kind culture.
Overconfidence
Quality and acts of being excessively confident people are found in impatience, hurriedness, less listening, more speaker, demonstrating a lack of regard and mutual understanding, opposing constructive feedback, less resilience and being highly sensitive. Such people make others feel inferior when anything belonging to them is criticised. Such people become less self-awareness, show large interpersonal frictions, have a lack of empathy and show repetitive mistakes. Gradually such a person creates an unkind environment and becomes unkind to self and others. One overconfident employee would destroy the kindness culture of the organisation, which could resist thriving in the workplace for others.
Under pressure
Doing or getting done anything under pressure brings a situation for both the persons of being unkind. A friendly atmosphere in workplace avoids circumstances of under-pressure situations. The under pressure situation for employees and boss seems a win-win situation but creates a loss-loss situation in the long run and restricts the thriving at workplace. Under-pressure situations make an unhappy organisation. Happy employees make more productivity and profits.
Unlearning and Relearning
Learning by reading, seeing, doing and supervising is a slow process that makes a professional. All of sudden, there is a call for change in process and technique to unlearn whatever has been learned till now. Another difficulty is brought in the process of relearning a new thing to execute the assignments. Such circumstance brings a very difficult situation and employees become hard to change. Such condition of unlearning and relearning transforms employees from kind to unkind. The change process should be strategically slow, consistent, involving employees and mutually agreed upon. At the same time, the employees should also be resilient and the receiving stage to build a kind situation.
No or Yes
I don’t want to listen “No” is a common statement between bosses and employees. No is a full statement instead a word that comes after a detailed mental analysis. The presence of the word “no” creates an unkind situation. Boss and employees both expect that none of them should use the word “no”. The moment the word “no” reaches to ear of anyone it becomes a catastrophic situation. Therefore, the handling of the word “no” should be of utmost care so that a kind culture is maintained in the workplace. It doesn’t mean that a person should always the word “Yes” to be kind.

Mutual Trust
The belief that the person and organisation would be good, honest and grow a career, builds trust between employees and the organisation. This mutual trust should always be solid and maintained. Mutual trust makes employees kind and humble to the organisation. At the same time, a breach of trust makes employees unkind towards the organisation. An unkind employee transforms slowly large numbers of employees and these small groups convert into an unkind organisation. Therefore, mutual trust should be maintained to build a kind culture for thriving in the organisation.
Mindset
A positive and growth mindset brings a growing environment to the workplace. The growth mindset person makes the sky the limit where an individual’s behavior is modulated by human values; respect for each individual, becomes a driver in making a working culture and overall happy atmosphere. Mindset develops with strong belief. A positive mindset person is found to be kind to self and others, and others become kind to him/her. Therefore, we should always have a positive and growth mindset to develop a kind and thriving workplace.
Feeling Respected
A respectful culture should be nurtured from the beginning of the organisation so that respect for the behavior of each employee is reflected. Such an atmosphere doesn’t allow anyone to have feelings of disrespect. Respectful behavior engages employees more, boosts innovation and creativity, brings a positive culture, improves health and wellness, and improves customer satisfaction and overall profitability. Respect is demonstrated during talks, discussions, writing letters and emails. Showing respect to each employee brings one of the best kinds of thriving workplace.
