From Crisis to Conservation: Exploring “Hope” this World Environment Day 2023
In this digital world, we should consider ourselves lucky enough to have forums where we can express our views about #worldenvironmentday.
This environment day is even more special because the world has "kind-of" come out from the wreath of the deadly Covid-19. While with the onset of the pandemic, there was a lot of hue & cry about saving the environment--discarded PPE kits, masks, gloves, & plastic sheets are LIVE proof that we, humans, are not yet done when it comes to negligence.
According to Elsevier (Science of Total Environment), “Waste generated by healthcare facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic became a new source of pollution, particularly with the widespread use of single-use personal protective equipment (PPE). To be honest, the situation even worsened after COVID-19, which saw more earth-strangulating cases."
In short, it’s high time!
According to reports, over 400 million tons of plastic are made each year, with half of it meant for single use. Less than 10 percent is recycled. Around 19-23 million tons go into lakes, rivers, and oceans. Plastic now fills up our landfills, seeps into the oceans, and creates harmful smoke when burned. It's a major danger to our environment. It’s time to take a stand to save our planet.
The theme for this year's World Environment Day is #beatplasticpollution. We all know that plastic is dangerous for our environment. Being cheap, easy to make, flexible, and widely accessible-its usability is at a large scale ($88.4B as the projected market size by the year-end 2030 in the healthcare industry).

It is crucial for everyone to come together and take steps to reduce plastic waste. This can be achieved through initiatives such as recycling programs, using reusable alternatives, promoting eco-friendly packaging, and raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment. By working together, we can make a significant impact and create a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations.
