If you’ve been around campus for a while, you probably remember us as FixMyCrack.

Yes, we know—fun name, right? But we've come a long way since those early days. Today, we proudly present ourselves as FixMyTek , your trusted on-campus tech repair team. And don’t worry—we still fix those cracks and so much more!

Whether you’ve cracked your phone screen or your laptop has decided to crash right before an important deadline (we’ve all been there), we’re still your go-to tech repair team, proudly serving both the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England . Since our name change, many of you have asked about the reasons behind it, so we’ve decided to dedicate this blog to that story. Let’s dive in!

A Little About Us

At FixMyTek, we’re not just about fixing devices; we’re about making a difference. Founded by students, we understand the unique challenges you face in balancing academic pressures with everyday life. To help you navigate those challenges, we’ve committed ourselves to being your reliable tech partner, providing convenient and trustworthy solutions when you need them the most.

But our mission goes beyond tech repairs. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Each time you choose to repair instead of replace, you're helping to reduce e-waste—one of today’s most pressing environmental issues. In fact, did you know that electronic waste accounts for about 20% of global waste, making it a significant contributor to landfill pollution. (You can check out the stats here).

We prioritize environmentally friendly repair solutions that keep your tech—and the planet—running smoothly. By working with charities and universities, we help refurbish and recycle tech, ensuring we all contribute to a greener future. Another key motivation for our journey is our commitment to you (students)—yes, that’s right, it’s all about you! We create opportunities for students, and our entire team is made up of graduates and current students from universities right here in Bristol. As we grow, we remain dedicated to providing more of these opportunities to students.

But How Did We Start?

Our Story: From FixMyCrack to FixMyTek

Our journey began, like many great ideas, with a simple solution to a common problem. Our CEO and founder, Casey Sather , was just another student at the University of Bristol, fixing phones for friends between lectures. Back then, reliable tech repair options around campus were scarce. As word spread, more students turned to Casey for help with their broken devices, leading to the birth of Phone Repair Anywhere in second year, then Brisfix, and then over lockdown… FixMyCrack! Our customers loved having a dependable repair option nearby (and still do!).


From those humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a team of passionate professionals—once students like you—who are dedicated to solving your tech woes. We’re still growing, adding one team member at a time, and expanding the range of repairs we offer. Whether you’ve spilled coffee on your laptop, dropped your phone in the toilet (believe us, it happens!), or smashed your phone during a night out, we can fix it all — and if not, we can help you find a new device!

As our reputation spread, so did our team, transforming from a one-person gig into the full-fledged tech repair service you know today as FixMyTek.

The Big Question: Why the Name Change?

So, why did we swap FixMyCrack for FixMyTek? It’s a question we get a lot. While we loved the quirky name, we’ve matured as a company. FixMyTek reflects who we are now—your all-in-one solution for any tech problem. Plus, let’s be real, FixMyTek sounds a bit more... professional! We’re still the fun, student-founded business you know and love, just with a fresh look and a broader focus.

And while our name may have changed, our commitment to keeping your tech running smoothly has only grown stronger. We’re still the same team dedicated to serving you, so if you miss the old name, let us know next time you visit—we love a bit of nostalgia!
