From Heidi to High Tech: The next Japanese-Swiss success story is in Decarbonization?

Did you know that the iconic "Heidi, Girl of the (Swiss) Alps" cartoon was brought to life by two young Japanese, Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata? This successful connection of Swiss and Japanese innovation was echoed this week in the context of NET ZERO as we welcomed a delegation from Japan to our UniSieve factory in Zurich. 🎌

Similar to Hayai and Isak, our guests explored new terrains. This time not the marvellous Swiss alps, but the depths of our cutting-edge membrane technology for decarbonisation of heavy emitting industries. How can we keep our industry alive without harming the planet?

As an industrial powerhouse, Japan's economy is heavily reliant on energy-intensive sectors like manufacturing, transportation, and electricity generation, much of which is still powered by fossil fuels. Despite its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the country faces challenges in transitioning to cleaner energy sources. To address this, the path to a low-carbon future will require innovation and challenging the status quo. Exactly what we do at UniSieve. Similar to multi functionality of yet another icon - the Swiss Army knife - our membrane platform can either be used to directly avoid carbon emissions across a wide range of chemical productions processes or to capture carbon emissions that can not be avoided. For faster exploration, customers can pilot our solution using a demonstration unit (see below our guests in front of one of them).

Considering, the great effort required across society, industry and government, to achieve Net Zero by 2050 or preferably earlier, it was reassuring and rewarding to see the enthusiasm and curiosity of our visitors as they explored our solutions for energy-efficient separation processes.

Their keen interest and insightful questions were a testament to the global importance of sustainable technology. We are proud to have impressed such esteemed visitors with our work and look forward to fostering stronger ties and collaborations with our friends in Japan. 🌐

Thank you to everyone involved for making this visit a success! Let's continue to innovate and work towards a more sustainable future together. 🌿

ABOUT

UniSieve is a technology company specializing in advanced membrane-based separation solutions. Founded with a vision to decarbonize heavy emitting industry either by directly avoiding carbon emissions by drastically cutting energy consumption (up to 90%) in chemical production for goods we all need every day we now also provide solutions for efficient, simple and thought free carbon capture of emissions that cannot be avoided yet.

UniSieve develops innovative membranes capable of separating gases with highest precision, by incorporating molecular sieves, allowing to separate specific gas molecules according to size. Applications range across various industries, including chemical processing, energy, pulp & paper, concrete and more, where solutions offer significant cost and energy savings.

UniSieve is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland with its own 1000m2 production site.
