From Needle Play to a Lifelong Passion - A Childhood of Curiosity: How Dr. Krishna Kumar's Journey Began

His journey began in 1984 when he earned his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India. However, it was his decision to specialise in pediatric cardiology that set the stage for an extraordinary career. Initially trained in cardiology at All India Institute, Dr. Kumar's trajectory took an unexpected turn when he decided to pursue his passion for paediatric cardiology, inspired by his mentor, the illustrious Dr. Raj Tandon (Master clinician, teacher, mentor, and role model for many generations of cardiologists in India)

Despite facing numerous challenges, including a lack of formal pediatrics training, being an overseas candidate, and financial constraints, Dr. Kumar's determination and Dr. Tandon's unwavering support led to a pivotal moment. Dr. Tandon wrote a letter to Boston Children's Hospital, a world-renowned institution in pediatric cardiology, urging them to accept Dr. Kumar as a fellow. This letter, combined with Dr. Kumar's unwavering commitment, set him on a path that would ultimately shape his career and the lives of countless young patients.

After four years of perseverance, Dr. Kumar finally arrived in Boston. Mike Freed, the program director at Boston Children's Hospital, handed him Dr. Tandon's letter with a simple directive: 'Mike, you must take him.' This fortunate turn of events connected Dr. Kumar with one of the most exceptional mentors in pediatric cardiology, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter in his life.
