From Stuck to SUCCESS!: 4 Steps to Overcoming Mindset Blocks

From Stuck to SUCCESS!: 4 Steps to Overcoming Mindset Blocks

Know this: Getting triggered or stuck is a NORMAL part of being a leader.

It’s something that's often not talked about enough. Even the kindest and most considerate leaders have to overcome mindset blocks.

The key is knowing how to navigate those moments, and it can be an extremely valuable skill.

In this guide, I've outlined four actionable steps to get you UNstuck.

4 steps to get UNstuck

Step 1️⃣: Identify the mindset.

Knowing WHAT you need to navigate is half the battle.

I wrote about 6 stuck mindsets that everyone has experienced at some point.

[And heads-up: I’ve got a library of 40+ stuck emotions inside the Mindset Medicine App! So it can help you get specific if you’re unsure.]

Step 2️⃣: Coach yourself with the right question(s)

If you ask yourself the right questions, you will be able to truly get into your head and change your perspective. This alone can move you into a growth mindset (where all things are possible!).

I call them “MindsetRx,” because they're like mental medicine. An ibuprofen will relieve pain. MindsetRX will relieve a stuck mindset.

Step 3️⃣: Use your body to help shift your mind!

When you're feeling triggered, you need to calm your nervous system before you can even answer the questions mentioned in step 2. That's why I suggest trying out "Active Mindfulness Moments" right in the midst of a triggering event.

My personal favorite is Box Breathing (done by Navy Seals!) to help get you grounded and ready to move forward.

How to do box breathing: Deeply inhale through your nostrils for 4 seconds, exhale through your nostrils for 4 seconds, hold again for 4 seconds, repeat as many times as necessary

Step 4️⃣: And finally, maintenance - address your ongoing habits

Once you're out of the immediate mindset funk (which will only take about 2 minutes using our first 3 steps!), it's time to look at your ongoing habits.

Each emotion is likely being exacerbated by some less than ideal habits, but I’ve got you covered with our “Hell Yeah Habits.”

For example: For some mindsets (like Anger and Negativity), a suggested habit is emotional proofreading.

You can’t unsend an emotionally charged email! Instead, this new habit will ensure that you’re sending emotionally controlled emails that represent you at your best.

[And yes, we have a whole library of “Hell Yeah Habits”!]

Break Free from the Stuck State

And there you have it!

This is why I created the Mindset Medicine App.

We know how tough it can be to deal with these emotions, especially as someone others look up to.

But that doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck.
